Marine H&S Platoon question

Hey folks, just a very random question, would prefer not to explain the reason. But can't get access to my Military.com log-in right now for some reason, hoping someone can help.

Can anyone tell me what an H&S Marine Platoon is (Health & Saftey?) and what would they be doing in Iraq exactly and what would a 1st LT's job be exactly. Platoon Commander?

H & S is Headquarters and Support. A Battalion's H & S is a company in size. Thats where all the Cooks, Armorers, Comm Bubbas etc. go under the TOE.

A 1st Lt might be the head of one of the shops or the XO for the company, it really depends on how large and how top heavy the unit in question is.

An H & S Platoon is somewhat the same as an H & S Company in funtion. It is where the all the company Corpsman, Comm guys, Clerks, Armorers, etc fall under in the TOE when not directly attached to a platoon.
Depending on the unit, the Company XO may also be considered the H & S Platoon Commander.

It is difficult to say exactly what they do. It depends on what type of unit it is and what type of operations they are involved in. When directly involed in operations they are the ones who directly work with the Company 1stSgt on running CCP's, CASEVACS, and MEDEVACS. The are also the guys who work with the CO Gunny when he is involed in anything logistical, and they are the ones who usually run all the Company radiowatch when you're sitting back at the FOB.

H&S is also where a lot of Bns put thier Sniper Platoons (though some Bns put the Snipers with Weapons Co).

H&S=Headquarters & Support.

It's a Co. level unit, comprised of exactly what the name states.

In lay man's terms...it's the place where a Marine Line Co., puts all the pogues who take care of things other than sending rounds down range, so that the 3 Line Cos and 1 Weapons Co. can concentrate on that task.

Every Marine Bn is comprised of a H&S Co., and 3 Line Cos and 1 Weapons Co., ie.; H&S Co...I Co, K Co, LCo, and Wpns Co.

Without H&S Co., we can't get to, get in, or get out of a fight. Not to mention get paid and your teeth cleaned.
