View Full Version : IE Search going to Porn/Sales Websites Instead
This might be a problem for someone else and I havent got any solutions thus far to this:
I had my pc re-formatted two weeks ago and since getting it re-formatted, whenever I do a search on either google or yahoo, it immediately takes me to a porn or sales site..it changes daily but i have tried downloading A-SQUARED anti-mal and anti-dialer to remove whatever trojans might be on but its been a no go thus far.
I am using NOD anti virus and even that has proven unsuccessful.
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions on something else I should try?

Definitely sounds like a virus doing the redirect. There are some good programs (free) out there to help you with your problem like hijackthis, ad-aware from lavasoft, and spybot search & destroy.
What has worked for me in the past is to go to www.bleepingcomputer.com and establish an account there. They have a forum chock full of people going through similar situations to yours (under the "Security" portion of the forums, there is a forum called "Am I Infected? What Do I Do?". That's the one you want). Once you get there, you can do a post of your own about the problem you're having with your computer, and someone will come along to help you out. The first thing they'll probably do is ask you do show them a "hijackthis" log, and they may give you a link to download it if you haven't already.
It will probably take a few sweeps to get the computer clean. Be prepared to spend (off and on) about 3 to 6 hours getting this process completed. Stick with it, though. They know what they're doing.

Thanks alot Bandy for that..very much appreciated. I have run sweeps today and yesterday twice and so far keep turning up dialers and add-ware's every single time...so will keep doing it over and over for a couple of days and will also register with the website you recommended and try to get some input.
This is really irritating sh*t to have happen as I cant do my work or even sleep soundly worrying my pc is infected..

Hoot, run your scans in safe mode. most of this crap runs as processes adn if you don't shut them down they won't get removed, they just reinstall.

Good point. I have run a scan using "ad-aware 2007" and it picked up a bunch of cookies but not the malicious file thats causing my IE to do what its doing.
I will give the safe mode scan a go..this might be the solution..

Best solution (if you have a copy of your OS and programs) is to wipe your HD and reload everything........ If you take this route, save all your important files on another disc or several disc's.....

I am still on XP as I dont know if Vista still has issues which need to be resolved....I have tried cleaning my pc with ad-ware and NOD as well as A-Square with no success.
The search on yahoo or google still takes me to porn sites and sales sites...so the scans are missing something..

Try the link inside of the link that I posted above to BHO Demon!!
XP should prevent this from happening, but it could have previously become resident or come in elsewhere!!
Dan's rundown that I posted really does work!! It is one righteous PITA, but it works!!

This is the crap I have on.
I downloaded windows defender, have also used A-Square, Add-ware and NOD without success.
I just downloaded Mozzila but looks like the problem isnt on my search engine maybe as it also re-directs me to this porn site as well...
So, it could be something else in my pc..

Right, I think the problem has been solved. Thank you guys for the help. It took 4 hours today and a number of different anti-malware, anti-hijack, anti-virus and anti-addware to find all the bugs in the system. One alone didnt locate all of the various trojans and spy-ware bugs on the pc so I used:
A-Squared anti-malware
A-Squared anti-hijack
A-Squared anti-dialer
Superantispyware
Threatfire
Nod anti virus
I had to run these twice each to make sure everything was located and it appears now I am not being re-directed to porn sites or advertised sites now so I think the problem is solved.
I found a number of trojans in the registry and also within the window's software files..
I presume you cant depend on just 1 software now as there are so many types of these trojans being released, you probably need a number of these I have listed above to try to nail as many as you can if you're pc is indeed infected.
I am not a IT expert so I am not going to try to say anymore than this but thank you once again to you guys for helping with the advice and suggestions of where to look within the pc for these trojans and also the PM's I got..
