FORT BRAGG,N.C. (USASOC News Service, Sep. 27, 2007) – An award ceremony recognizing the valorous actions in Afghanistan of 52 Soldiers from 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) based at Fort Bragg, N.C., will be held at Meadows Memorial Parade Field here on Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.
Six 3rd SFG(A) Soldiers will receive the Silver Star and a total of 8 Purple Hearts, 15 Bronze Stars and 23 Army Commendation Medals for valor will be awarded.
Their unit recently completed a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Silver Star is the Army’s third highest award for combat valor and is awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States during military operations.
The commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Wagner and the commanding general of U.S. Army Special Forces Command, Maj. Gen. Thomas R. Csrnko will co-preside over the ceremony and present the awards.
