View Full Version : Starbucks
I recently received a $300 gift card from Starbucks, by way of apologizing for their various sins against humanity. Namely, systematically shorting me on espresso for the last three years.
With tax, my daily double espresso costs $2.00. I have been suspicious for some time, though, that I have not actually been receiving twice as much espresso as a single shot involves. This was confirmed when I had a Starbucks employee measure both out for me – I have been receiving 1.7 shots.
15% short shot x $2 x approx. 1000 days = $300
This struck me as highly ironic, given the incessant and annoying marketing by Starbucks of “Fair Trade coffee”.
Emboldened by my success, I have escalated my attacks. I now simply order a “cup of Joe” with a deadpan expression. When asked what size, I reply, “Medium.” This makes everyone very uncomfortable, but I am sure they will eventually work through their feelings and achieve catharsis upon realizing that they are acting pretty stupid by trying to alter the English language.
This made me laugh!
I still have a hard time getting "grande latte" out of my mouth. I usually just ask for medium with 2 shots of espresso.
Jeeezzzzz you people with your Starbucks.
Just give me a cup of good 'ol 7-11 coffee, one that I can make myself.
They have a great Irish Cream coffee made up, that goes great in my Colorado Avalanche coffee mug, along with 7-9 of those International Delight, Irish cream creamers.......$.95.
Bing, bang, boom, I'm in and out.

Starbucks. What can I say ? If I hear one more person say "I'll have a tripple caramel macchiata vinte" one more time I think I 'll puke.
I want coffee, and give me a large one. Guess I'm not as socially polished as the Starbucks business model for customers would want me to be.
I buy coffee beans from Krogers that are supposedly a Columbian blend. With a simple bean grinder and coffee maker I make about 25 large cups of "SUPREMO" coffee for about $5.00 plus my tap water. If I want to get fancy I simply purchase the "VALUE" priced cinnamon powder and add a shake into the cup and I've got a better coffee than standing in line behind some fag reading Kurt Vonegut "Slaughter House Five" for his first time. Of course pretending to be one step up the social ladder than me.

Seriously.
Though I'll admit to a weakness....their Gazebo Blend coffee (sold only during the summer) is my special and secret (ok not so much secret anymore) treat to myself. I buy the bag o' beans and grind my coffee fresh every morning. Mmmm, makes me happy. :D

Whoa, I guess I'm a "fag" for liking strong coffee!
Whenever I go into Starbucks (which is rare) they look at me crazy everytime I order. I always just get a black coffee with no cream or sugar.
I guess its pretty unusual for up here near Seattle.

I'm lucky, my sister works for a Starbucks, receiving a couple of bags with her paycheck. She of course gives me one occasionally to keep me happy.

Do they still give stock options to employees?

You know, I'm not sure. I'll call her and ask. Speaking of which, it's about that time again for another bag. :P

Another vote for Sleven's coffee. One nearby location even stocks up on the extra caffeine shots, conveniently placed near the cream and sugar. One shot equals two cups of coffee - or something like that. I didn't read the fine print, which is probably where the health warning is located.:D
At the office, we brew Costco/Kirkland 100% Colombian. I must question that labeling though, as it's nowhere near as good as the real Colombian coffee a member sent me.
Actually, as I understand it, per serving, American drip coffee has the most caffine of the caffinated world, then espresso.
That scary squirrel world bit was fooking great! Starbucks has become more of a branding issue than it ever has been about coffee. IMNSHO, Starbucks burns the crap out of their bean; it may be a trade mark taste for them, but I think it tastes like ass.
If you are ever in the Seattle area and want to have a genuinely well made coffee, check out Cafe Vita or Cafe Vivace, both small, independent roasters with outstanding quality control. The stuff is great. You might, however, have to stand in line with some dude that looks like a girl or a girl that looks like a boy reading Vonnegut (God rest his soul).
