Speaking as an Irish ex-pat,i'm positively quivering in anticipation of the World Cup which starts on Friday.If you have Direct Tv you can watch it on Setanta sports, or alternatively online on www.Setanta.com. For any of you out there who would like to see what all the fuss is about with regards to rugby,this is a great chance to watch the premiere event in the sport.
Also,to anyone on Bragg who wants to play,the season starts this month.Come out to practice tuesdays and thursdays 1830-2000ish on the field behind the North Post PX.More details on www.braggrugby.org,no experience needed,come out and give it a lash

The USA Eagles are 5,000 to 1 to win, and we play England on Saturday. I like those odds! After all, would David beating Goliath have been as cool if Goliath was only 6 feet tall? Why not go after the biggest and the baddest with nothing to lose? Appalachian State seems to have profited from their opportunity fairly well.
Haven't followed Rugby Union as much as I have Rugby League, but they both seem like really rugged sports. I have a neighbor that moved here from Australia, and he's been explaining the whole rugby thing to me. Even got to play a little "touch" rugby league, and started following the NRL on Setanta (go Cowboys). There is a US Rugby League (been around for 10 years) that will hopefully continue to catch on (the championship match was played two Saturdays ago in Jacksonville, FL. Tickets were $5, beer was $1. Don't think you can get those prices at the Super Bowl or World Series).
And the New Zealand team (the "All Blacks") do an impressive tribal dance before international competitions. Interesting way to say "Hello" before the game starts.

Anyway, way off thread, but nice to see someone else who is excited about rugby. Now, if only soccer would catch on...

As a Kiwi I know I'm biased but the All Blacks are really looking in fine form this season, what are the odds for the Kiwis at this Cup?
That Haka is truly impressive down on the field too. Tradationally it is a dance that would be performed by warring Maori tribes (the indiginous people of New Zealand) before going into battle to 'prepare' the warriors and strike fear into their enemy. Hence why it is performed at the beginning of a Rugby match.
I've been wondering if they'd let us write and perform one at our 11x BCT graduation? Done well it is impressive and 'warrior' appropraite.

I feel it would appropriate only if you, as a New Zealander, led the haka. Let me know if you want any info on it; I can email the Maori Network at work for guidance if you need a hand writing it.
We're going to DOMINATE this World Cup. Or we better!

Thanks Huey, I checked in with a Maori elder I know and he only asked that I lead it and mention that I had been given permission by a specific iwi and also clearly state that I my only Maori heritage is being a member of the iwi of Aotearoa but no specific Maori decent.. It is difficult to get hold of him so any help on a translation and advice on movements would be appreciated.

See I told ya,
The All Blacks are out, and beaten by our arch nemesis France too, just like last year, (Kiwis stopped liking the French after they snuck into our harbour with a SOF type team and blow up one of our ships back in 85. Ha but we caught the roters!).
Now Kiwis are a great bunch, but we suffer from 'Tall Poppy Syndrome' and unlike most Americans I know aren’t very nice at all to a losing team, The examples below are from a national Newspaper and the pictures are a national beer advertising campaign that has been going on for years.
e.g. "Na bro your hot sister can share my bed, no need for me to go on the couch bro, I won't try anything, promise......YEAH RIGHT!"
- What’s the difference between the All Blacks and a tea bag? - a tea bag stays in the cup longer
- What’s the difference between the all blacks and an arsonist? - an arsonist wouldn't waste 5 matches
- What’s the difference between the all blacks and a 747? - the 747 stops whining when it reaches Auckland
- Heard about the new All Blacks wonder Bra? - heaps of support and no cup
Honestly, our nation goes into a slight economic recession when ever things like this happens.
Explanation
1. This is the 3rd cup in a row were we should have won and didn't even come close
2. Yeah right!
3. We missed a try becuase of a stupid unforced forward pass
5. Two points down and the end of the game we tried a 50m field goal
The funny thing is, is that Ozzies out to, what the hell is happening to Southern Hemisphere Rugby. Mind you Argentina has come out of nowhere to be the final 4. Who would have think.
