View Full Version : How does one strangle one’s son…
and get away with it?
Yesterday my son changed the oil in his truck. This morning my wife did the laundry. The clothes came out dingy and smelling like petroleum. It turns out that the condemned child tossed his oil soaked rags in the washer after the oil change without telling anyone.
Commutation or pardon are not an option.
Torture is fine. It's even encouraged. ;)

Laundry duty for a month. Closely supervised.
He will hang himself.

If you're suggesting fermented laundry, he is equipped with a respirator and he already does weekly laundry.

It's summer. Find something for him to do in the attic. :D
I think make him do the laundry until it is right. Sort of the same as TR.
Make him do laundry by hand, the deployed way, with a bucket, a bar of soap, and a scrub brush.
I'd park the truck for a while. Have him find out how to use the bus.
I think I'd have a pretty damn good looking front yard too.
If he can swing a hammer, use a skil-saw, take measurments, etc.
Send him to me. I have about 60-90 days of hard "construction" work for him.:lifter

Stay safe.

While in HS, I tore more than one car (and motorcycle) engine apart. I am pretty sure I informed my "higher", before I dumped them into the laundry...
Good luck!
Age of son?
I have four boys, I wouldn't hold it against the 11 year old, would cut some slack for my 16 year old, but if it was the 22 year old or the 30 year old ... not just laundry duty, Momma might be getting a new washing machine.

Evidently the rags need to be washed again because they still have oil in them.:D
My family and I used to own and operate a laundramat. Some of the oilfield workers would come in to do their coveralls in our machines rather than "mess up their own". We learned real quick that Simple Green cuts the grease and oil and helps get rid of the smell. I would suggest that your son rewash the clothes with Simple Green, and then also run the washer empty with just detergent and SG.
Wash his underwear with some poison ivy. You will not be troubled again.
Having been a little boy pooping in the woods and grabbing leaves off the nearest 'tree' to wipe up with I know that it sucks ... very badly.
Thus I learned poision ivy was not just a little bush.

The door to one's room is a privilege to be earned...additionally I am a big fan of the "digital abyss" in order to focus the energy of the children....

Nonna,
I was going to suggest the punishment would be getting said son a box of tools and having him dismantle the entire washing machine, with digital camera in hand to document how it goes back together, in order to hand scrub all oil residue off all internal parts and hoses.
Your solution sounds smarter.
Simple Green is noted.

Exactly. The guy who shot his daughter's boyfriend should have listened to you beforehand and he wouldn't be in the mess he's in.
I would not be in such a hurry to dish out a sentence. Was it really his fault that he put the rags in YOUR machine? Perhaps previous decisions you made caused all of this. Who put the Washing Machine there in the first place? Was the lid left open? Was there a laundry Basket close by? Did he have any other options?
What type of day did he have? Did he get a good nights sleep? Was he trained properly to change Oil? If so, by who? Did he pay for the Oil and Rags? If not and it was you who paid. Well, say no more Judge Parker.
He is obviously the Victim here. Is Jiffy lube really out of your financial reach. Why was he even changing his Oil. A Jury might see things a little different. Was it really his rags that soiled your clothes. Or were your clothes in the way because of prior poor decisions. A clear case of the Accused becoming the Victim, if I ever saw one;)

Are you looking for a job as a Public Defender!?

I like that.

Our front yard is 8" x 10' and my wife is growing a Victory Garden.

I'm in Santa Rosa...
He's done construction work with his uncle who's a contractor. If he wasn't heading back to college next week, you'd have a free worker bee! (An Ipe deck would be good. :D )

Done, but my wife did it.

Unfortunately I have to make sure he doesn't dismantle the washing machine. He's going to school to be a mechanical (automotive) engineer.
The decision is: He has to clean the dog runs for a month. I'm not sure why he wasn't doing it all along. My wife will be happy. :D

K,
You're right. I never looked at it like that. Fortunately, neither did, or would, my son. :D
He's a great kid. The last time I disciplined him he was 11 or 12. His crime was to close the screen door to the deck. We don't have a bug problem here and don't use screens. I walked into the screen door with a plate of chicken for the grill. I picked him up and held him against the wall for 5 minutes while I delivered a rational reprimand. :D
He can now pick me up and hold me against the wall...well, if he can catch me. :lifter

Uh, I hope he's still living with you or this sentence doesn't really seem all that arduous... ;)
Personally, I would have gone with the deaf ear to the desire for cash for the first couple months at school... Although it sounds like this young man probably would have his own source for extra cash. Hmmm... renting out his room so he's got no place to go for the holidays? :D

Shame that your wife has already taken care of the machine. :( I would say to have him clean each and every one of the little drain holes inside the machine.
But, credit to him for being self sufficient, and credit to you and the Mrs. for raising him well!
