I just picked up my third variant micarta gripped Tactical folder. This one has a lock. What's the story on these?

I found the answer over on USN posted by Sneaky SF Dude & Mr Harsey.

Here is what happened, The Lone Wolf-Harsey Big Tactical Folder project was begun with both the micarta handles and LAWKS just like my original prototypes. The micarta handles are expensive to machine and it was hard getting them done in any quantity on a predictable basis. This knife was being put on the GSA and orders had to be filled in a timely manner (we couldn't get good delivery times from the suppliers doing the micarta handles) I got frustrated and told Lone Wolf to go ahead with making expensive plastic injection molds for the handles. The material used in the handles is Zytel, a glass filled nylon resin polymer that can be injection molded. Micarta cannot be injection molded. Zytel is stronger in this application than micarta and can be cleaned much better. The shape of the knife handle is very high grip, relying less on the actual surface of the handle material to aid in gripping. We stiil use a very good texture on the Zytel to aid in gripping. The LAWKS system didn't work well against the titanium frame and was causing confusion in the operation of the knife. Titanium does not make a good bearing surface, ever, so for now we are not using the LAWKS system. These changes were made during production and I always reserve the right to make a knife better even after first article has been introduced. I'm sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Bill
PS - I can fit the LAWKS here in the shop just fine but it takes extra care. What I could do here couldn't be duplicated in production because in production assembly, they can't spend hours fitting one knife joint, I can and sometimes do. LAWKS is a very good idea and we reserve the right to use it again when we can get it right. For now this is how the knife will stay, have you seen the T-2?
Hope it helps"
