Well - I've got five gallons (mead) fermenting in the guest bathroom. Ought to be drinkable in a couple months and then we can find out how long it takes to consume. (I'd rather host a party and drink it than try to bottle that much. :p ) Your problem is "proof" - wine is only 7 - 12 % alcohol. Proper pacing and good kidneys - well, lets just say it could get expensive. Apply simple economics and an effective dosing plan. Go with distilled, undiluted spirits. Sacrifice a good bottle up front, by the time it's finished most guys will accept a "lesser swill" as follow-on without complaint. Spend two or three bottles of whiskey to save a case (or more) of good wine. The wife and I in the course of an afternoon with two discerning guests consumed eight bottles of pretty good local vintage stuff - never felt it (and we're considered lightweights). In 7th Group, wine is not really considered an alcoholic beverage. It's mostly for women and children.

I would say that is the reason he is drinking your wine, he does not want to demolish your stock of real booze, rum and tequila. :D

LOL, I offered the top of the line Pappy van Winkle's, but he elected to drink some wine that happens to be more expensive. :)
I switched him to cheaper stuff after a few bottles. :lifter

Don't get your noses too far out of joint - the better box wines are actually a pretty good value. Decent quantity (3 - 5 liters vs. 750 ml), acceptable quality (if you pay attention to the reviews), reasonable price (Class VI by preference), perfect for sharing with undiscriminating friends (the usual slobs). I don't mind taking a couple boxes to an SCA event and sharing with 10-12 people I've never met before - certainly beats dealing with bottles at a camping event. And if you don't drink it all, it will keep for WEEKS vs. days. Two months later it'll make great braised short ribs (found an opened box we'd forgotten about - still drinkable but we had "the good stuff" out for company).
Just had to put in a good word for the "practical" approach. :p Peregrino

When I was young and stupid, in a single session, I have drunk as much as either a case of beer, a fifth of liquor, or 3 bottles of wine. Since I lived long enough to get older, I have also gotten smarter.
I think the all-time single evening personal record for myself and a naval aviator friend, along with our wives (of of whom one stayed straight enough to be the designated driver), was a 750 ml bottle of Wild Turkey, half a bottle of Booker's, a four pack of Guinness pints, two bottles of white, and a bottle of red, along with a few shots of Bailey's in the coffee and whatnot along the way.
The next morning, I got up early to check on the kids (still a little loopy), but the wife (who drank almost nothing but wine) was paralyzed till well into the afternoon, and she was violently ill then.
She could not believe the amount the aviator and I consumed seemingly without ill-effect.
That much was when I was in drinking shape and would probably kill me now.

Being still young and stupid, I drank roughly a case of beer ( 24 pack ) yesterday along with some whiskey and Vodka....before I went to the bar. Did consume a large doze of beers, drinks and shots with female friends there. Well I did find myself today at the beach with an extremely attractive woman along side me in bikinis.
I was a bit puzzled...on how I stayed so well behaved that I did not scare the women away.

I had a master sergeant tell me his liver wasn't really as hard as a rock. It was just one of those little mini bottles he had swallowed by accident...
