Congress approved a $1 million earmark for an institution that no one is even sure exists. Not surprisingly the earmark was the work of John "Abscam" Murtha who got it on behalf of a political donor. The really screwed up thing is that members of both parties voted against removing the earmark even though they were well aware of the dubious nature earmark. They are all a bunch of lying thieves and should be banned from holding office.

No, just earmarks from Republicans. So much for bringing back ethics to Congress. On the bright side according to Zogby Congress now has the lowest approval rating since he started polling.

Now you know those folks on Capital Hill are not influenced by all that money their big donors give them. They have told us that hundreds of times.......

Congressional representatives have done the same thing for decades - often for much greater sums. Sadly, this is nothing new.
The public holds Congress, as a whole, in low regard. Again, nothing new.
Isn't it interesting that the voting public continues to elect the same representatives, year in and year out? Whether the problem lies in the electorate, the process, or something else, I do not know - but I do wonder.

Well, I hate to be lumped in to a so general thesis. I may be in the minority, but I still believe Congresmen will uphold the duties thier constituants apponited them for.
Now, weather or not it is a demo-rat or not that was elected...that is another story.:munchin

I believe its a generational trickle down effect.
I grew up with both parents, aunts, and uncles and grandfather and grandmothers that were registered democrats. They voted and still vote democrat no matter the candidate. Interestingly enough what my family needs are Republican ideologys. Farmers, hunters, and blue collar workers that are IN FACT upper middle class, healthy bank accounts, extensive property ownership and enjoy three vacations a year to Florida, Vegas, even abroad to Germany and France and Italy. They are in fact enjoying an upper middle class existence, both financially and intrinsically.
All the males in the extended family are avid hunters, NRA members, and enjoy an arsenal of varied rifles and shotguns. But, break out my favorite pistol or an AR15 and they whisper the words of the anti gun crowd behind my back. They simply do not understand the 2nd Amendment, in it's entirety, and are more than ready to see handguns and military style rifles banned. I believe politically they are a confused bunch. They have listened to their grandfathers, their grandmothers, their father and mothers and are convinced that anything Republican only exists for the rich. All the while missing the conservative roots of the Republican political ideology. Which by the way includes one of their most prized beliefs.................Religion and our Savior Jesus Christ. Have they read "Godless" lately ? Not likely, their anindated with democratic lies and false promisis.
Amazingly all of my cousins, down in the holler, are college educated, put themselves through school, and still hold on to any democratic candidate just the sake of being democrat.
Interesingly I am the only cousin within the entire extended family that has served in the Armed Forces. All of my uncles, my father, my grandfathers served during war time, and some in peace time.
It was force fed to them through the generations before them.
By the way, I love them all dearly none the less.

OMG that sounds like southern Missouri. Folks been voting Democrat just because the Union burned down the courthouse in 1863. Though they have slowly started to come around. Some will say the vote Dem then privately admit they voted Republican.

What is new is the amount of "pork" these days. The number of ear-marks keep growing and what do they say..... "It is nothing compared to the overall budget"..... and the basis for the pork is not to do something good, it is to get reelected!

If we suppose that the various representatives are fulfilling their duty, then that would explain why they are reelected.
But how to account for the poll results that hold congress (as a group) in such low regard? The only possibility I see is a deep divide among voters in the various congressional districts, such that the various representatives work at cross purposes. Perhaps there are better explanations?

Most believe that the person they voted for is the best thing since sliced pie and everyone else that is elected is screwed up......
