View Full Version : US Trip Redux
I am coming to the great US of A on Sunday. Staying one month. NY, DC, NC (Wilmington, Fayetteville), possibly FL (Sarasota). Going alone.
Arriving in NC on the 13th. Have not decided how long. Planning on seeing the three museums (JFKSWCS, Abn & Spec Ops, 82nd Abn Div War Memorial), bathe and see if I can get an NRA handgun or rifle class. Anyone know if the beaches are good in Wilmington, and if it's hard to get from there to Fayetteville?
If anyone has a few minutes over during this time frame, and like coffee or that sweet NC tea, or water, please reply or send a PM.
I will check in here before leaving, and sometime when in NY (for booking the hotel in NC and FL).
Did not win the lottery this year either... and still otherwise ineligible for service. Aiming for tech school. Planning, dreaming, praying, living - one day I shall succeed, but until then my appreciation for your sacrifice is endless.

Martin,
Wilmington has Wrightsville Beach, elements of which you may not be completely averse to. Get in touch with me and I'll set you up with some locals. Last time I was there, I found myself in the middle of a Girls Gone Wild taping. :)
Martin I hope you have a great visit! Sorry you won't be hitting the Chicago area.
Hi Gypsy! Thanks! No, wait, I'm turning southerner - Hey Gypsy!
Chicago is pretty cool, but I've only cruised through it a few times on the way to and from the airport. Have some relatives north of you in WI.
---
In regards to communication question above - I do not have a car! Looking at hotels in Wilmington currently.
An idea was brought up in a PM. If you are up to a shooting date, send a PM.
This is going to be great! I am going to get myself a ton of Heinlein books in NY and perhaps something worldly.

Wow, 1001 posts and not one sane word. :lifter
Doing the last of the packing, writing a couple of traveling instructions... tomorrow the day is seen in the land of the free and home of the brave.
I will book the hotel in Fayetteville when in NY, so if there is going to be any coordination with the duration of the stay, you need to speak up.

Have a great visit, Martin!
I am in NYC, having a good time. Interesting. Taking it one step at a time and resting, reading and thinking a lot. Beer has been involved.
Heading down to NC as previously advertised. Will be interesting to see what the south is like, and the Fayetteville that has been mentioned so many times.
May not check in online again during the vacation.
Take care,
Martin

I will not be in town, but have fun on your visit to Fayetteville.
Make sure that you get to see the SF and 82nd Museums, as well as the ASOM. Take a drive around Ft Bragg, if you get the chance, there is usually a jump going on at St. Mere or Sicily DZs. Just down the street from the ASOM is Huske Hardware, which is pretty good for micro brews, and it is hard to beat the seafood at 316 Oyster Bar. Smithfield Barbecue is a chain, but it is better than any of the local Fayetteville 'cue joints. Lots of good Mex and Asian places for lunch.
I would send you to the world famous Bottoms Up Club, but you are not old enough to appreciate it, or to consume the quantity of alcohol that is required to stomach it.
Stay out of the beer joints at night, unless you are with someone who knows the area, and the trouble spots. Very easy to step on toes around town, and words can escalate to something a lot more serious pretty quickly.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Aloha!
