Greetings! Having spent the last days enjoying hospital food...I used the Search button and found a thread from 2004 started by TS, asking about favorite food.
(see above link)

I was curious if anyone would like to share their favorite food and/or if anyone from that old threads' fav has changed? :)

Good, real Southern biscuits and gravy. Ft. Benning had some of the finest biscuits and gravy I have ever enjoyed. I could live off the stuff.
It's hard to find good b&g out here. :(

How about MREs as your favorite food?

I used the search button and found threads on MRE shelf life, favorite discontinued MREs and where to buy MREs, but nothing specifically about favorite MREs and least favorite MREs...

Lots of folks hanging-out on PS.com must be wondering about good ol' Army cuisine - the good, the bad, and the yummy; both these days and in years gone by.

At the appropriate point, I'd like to hear favorite and not so favorite MRE foods ... Each of my boys have their favorite MRE food - stuff they love and trade for --- And, other foods that they try to bury as deep and as fast as they can.

Also, how has Uncle Sam's cooking changed over the years? - Is it getting better or is it worse?

So, let's talk civilian food and let's also talk about yummy military chow...

Don't be embarrassed to admit that once in a whille when you're getting ready to settle in and watch a football game that you don't find yourself hungry and pining for a quick delicious Turkey Dinner MRE - not just cause they were good, but they were so quick and easy - And, that makes it taste so much better, right? Let's be honest... My wife doesn't read this board so I'll say it - I wish she could cook as well as Uncle Sam. Hey, I've only had some samples and I find myself wanting more.

Is anyone going to be bold and say their military MREs were/are their favorite food? Personally, I like food that is ready and at my elbow - MREs fit the bill.

I love fast starchy meals with lots of gravy...

Hey, are there Sushi MREs? ;)

omakase:
"CHEF'S CHOICE A MULTI-COURSE TASTING MENU DESIGNED TO ALLOW YOU TO EXPERIENCE THE ESSENCE OF MORIMOTO'S CUISINE."

RL--I checked it out, and Da-um! You really have great taste!:lifter

Your search skills need some help, Chuck!

Plus, let's not ruin Holly's thread with discussion about MREs! LOL

I saw that one - that was MRE Recipe Contest...

Fair enough...I don't want to spoil a good thread.

Favorite Food - Pizza. ...Pizza has everything I like - cheese, meat, and vegetables - yummy - You get all that good stuff in each bite. The best part is that it is delivered hot and ready to eat. On my diet, I rarely get it (South Beach - lost 25 pounds two years ago) - So, when I do get it - it's that much better.

Sorry, Holly...My favorite food is probably a disappointment, too.

OK, OK, I take back the comment on your searching skills -- feel free to start a separate thread on MREs if you want!

Here in Cincinnati we have four rather great Sushi restauants to choose from.

1. Saki Bom

2. Sushi Ray's (Ray is now away on vacation to the Orient. Dont go now)

4. The Fish House. (Located in Mt. Adams)

5. Caviar.

I personally like the "Rainbow roll" the "Sesame Roll" The "Caviar Roll" The "Spicy Tuna Roll" the "Tempora Rolls" and fresh "Squid Roll" with caviar and sesame.

I start with the Misu soup and about 3 Kirin Lagers (Tall)

Holly: If you ever find yourself in the Cincinnati area feel free to PM me and we'll see that you get to all four Sushi houses.

Restaurant Food:

X-Factor....No relation... :)

A guy that would pick pizza as his favorite food is kind of scary... My daughter said to me yesterday that I scare the guys that she brings around - I told her I know what she means - I scare myself sometimes. :)

I love Indian food - and pretty much anything with a curry of any kind is a favorite in our house. Thai curry, Japanese curry, etc. My husband has spent a fair amount of time in Japan and claims that the only thing he knows how to cook is Japanese food, so I love it when he cooks that because it means I have a night off!

As for restaurants, I'm guessing RL may have heard of this place since it is in his neck of the woods, but it's a favorite of ours when we are visiting the area. Dar Maghreb on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood has fantastic Moroccan food and is just plain fun. They have bellydancers too. One of the courses you get, b'stilla is phenomenal but you have to try it before you know the contents!

Have not been there. I try very hard to avoid Sunset Blvd. -- only good thing there is a little gun shop called LA Guns. :D

It really is fun and the food is very good. You can't understand a word of what the guy is saying when he tells you what you are ordering (you basically get one choice - the kind of meat) but you won't be disappointed or hungry when you leave.

Fav foods. . . what a great thing to think about!

Some of my favorites: Fresh caught salmon, just off the boat up in AK. . . quidio moo (phonetic rendering), the noodle soup you get on the street in Thailand. . . Pretty much any food that comes from the pacific rim.

Back in Seattle, a chef named Tom Douglas has several restaurants, all fantastic. His, plus the biggies like Canlis, the gazillion Vietnamese, Thai, Ethiopian, etc. and others make my home town a nice place to dine.

Here in Fayetteville, the pickin's are a bit slim, but Southern Pines has Chef Warren's.

Honestly though, in the end, my favorite food is what comes from my wife's kitchen.

Favorite foods...in no particular order

Fresh, hot, flour tortillas right off the grill from a certain little place in Texas.

A rib-eye steak, chicken fried, with cream gravy and mashed potatoes. In the gravy, there has to be a certain amount of very coarse ground black pepper.

Bacon - extra crisp, thick sliced, apple cured.

Chocolate cake with fudge icing from Joseph's storehouse...they published the recipe. Perhaps I should post it?

Sticky buns from the Gunther House bakery, gently warmed, with extra butter and coffee...all on a cool morning, about 7:30 AM...on their patio. (This may not even be legal!)

A traditional Irish breakfast served at a B&B on the auld sod, or at Jack Quinn's if you don't want to travel.

Creton on toasted pumpernickel with white American cheese and spicy mustard.

Fresh-out-of-the-oven tortiere or salmon pie on Christmas Eve, with a pad of butter melting on top of the crust.

RL--Try out a weeknight at "The Rainbow Room"...one of my favorite places on earth! Little known fact is that it is owned by Italians, and they have incredible Italian food. No lie! (If You go on a weekend expect lots of Porn Stars, and rockers etc...)

If You go, sit in one of the red banquets, and order a pizza pie "Joe-sep-e Style", it's off the menu, and fantastic. (Also the Chicken Marsala is amazing)

Porns stars and Rockers at the "Rainbow Room" ? Imagine that

I did visit the "Whiskey O' Gogo" and listened to some pretty decent rock one night though. Scott Stapp of all people jumped on stage and did an impromptu few numbers of his own. I think he then got arrested the next day for being drunk at LAX airport.

Lately my favorite is my own invention,

Alaskan Salmon Taco's.
Ingredients include, olive oil, large corn tortillas (fresh), red bell pepper, cabbage, red onion, jalapenos, cilantro, lime juice, mexican cheeses, tomato, etc.

They were inspired by the "Fish Tacos" at a local restuarant, theirs are made with halibut, but I prefer Salmon, so I made my own. They go down good with your favorite beer.

When I lived in North County, CA, I used to frequent a place in Calrsbad called Wahoo's! that sold incredible fish tacos. But, your's sound even tastier. Thanks for the recipie!;)

A buddy of mine turned me on to a super-easy, very fast dip/salsa. He calls it crack dip because when he makes it for parties, it's gone within minutes.

Basic ingredients dumped into one dish and mixed.

One can Black Beans (drained)
One jar (about 16 oz) of your fav salsa.
Garlic powder to taste

That's it. It is effing good. . . but wait. . . it gets better:

chop a vine ripened tomato, perhaps some onion and a handful of diced cilantro and it's even more "crackish." For our NE readers, it's wicked good.

Ah, the life of a geographical bachelor. . .
