Who cares? Bloomburg changes his political party like most people change their socks.
It's only "BUZZ" because the MSM tells us so. Most of us are smarter than that.

Why is this the last thing we need? I actually think it works in our favor. He was a life long democrat who only switched to the republican party because he couldn't win the democratic nomination for mayor. His positions are so close to that of Hilary and Obama that they should be the ones that are worried about losing support from an independent not Fred Thompson.
There are a bunch of democrats/liberal leaning moderates that were planning to hold their noses while voting for Hilary. This gives them an out much like Ross Perot did to Bush Sr. Bloomberg's message and style (he sounds like he is whinning every time he opens his pie hole) will not play well in red or the baby blue states. He will do well in NY, Ca, NJ and Mass. That will cause whoever is the Democratic nominee to spend more money in traditionally safe states leaving less for the swing states.
Frankly I see this as a win/win if he runs. I can't stand the guy and I know him personally.

Glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks he is an ass, and wonders what Republican creds he ever had.
After reading his "cash for behaving" story, I have to wonder how he ever got wealthy.
He strikes me as a pompous, self-centered jackass who would make a fine Democratic nominee. Maybe Ralph and the Greens will help him out and let him run with them?
I agree, looks like a win-win for the Repubs with him leaving and running. Not like he is going to take a lot of conservative voters with him.

Well, that's one NYC mayor out of the Big Tent, can we make it two? :lifter

I, along with several of my fellow traders, were invited to attend a blacktie fund raiser that Bloomberg was attending. At the time we were a fairly large customer of his and yet he treated us like we were hired help. I was struck with what a self absorbed a-hole he was at the time. Now that he is no longer a businessman but a full blown attention whore/hack I am sure he is even more obnoxious.
My party never wanted or needed a man like Michael Bloomberg. The fact that he is no longer a member of my party pleases me to no end.

We stopped using his institutional bond trading systems a long time ago when I was employed with Dean Witter/Morgan Stanley. They were and are outdated technology. He kept them on the street as if they were the only tool that provied the traders with up to the date institutional size trades.
the VP for retail sales at Witter recieved a letter telling him that without his systems our large bond trades would recieve quotes that were far from the intistutional market prices. Out traders didn't lose a beat and in fact their business was increased through better technology and ease of trader use.
So much for his "superior" info systems and price tracking.

Hmmm, so what trading information systems do you consider superior to Bloomberg? :munchin

Actually it was a propietary system that looked a bit like the Bloomberg layout, but was tied the to exchanges through a barder system with trading firms. We recieved even better pricing than through the Bloomberg system.
This particular system not a delayed pricing system, but real time, even faster than the Bloomberg. We were able to see trends in Treasury patterns and corporate trading patterns faster than the Bloomberg system. Muni's were also included on a national Muni system of tracking and state by state with correlations of yield and coupon rate in comparison to the national coupon rates and state rates. It seemed to be more friendly than the Bloomberg system and also included all the financial news in pop up windows within seconds of the news being released.
Nice system.
As for M. Bloomberg for POTUS I cannot stand the man ! He's shown his true colors with illegal rogue gun dealers endeavors and should be facing jail time.

It depends on what you are using it for. There are several firms that have developed their own proprietary systems that rival Bloomberg on the news and techincal data, and with the rise of ECN's for order routing and the internet for messaging you can happily get by in the equities market without Bloomberg. On the derivatives and fixed income side it is a bit harder but it can be done. Having said that, they are still the 800 pound gorilla in their field.

A"...he is a man who does not seem to like too much attention" (that isn't the exact quote, but very similar).
That is pretty funny. The guy dated Diana Ross for crying out loud. If he doesn't like attention than he has a really weird way of trying to avoid it.
Not to mention all the BS stunts he pulls just to get in front of a camera, like sending private dectectives into gun stores in Va. to illegally buy firearms and then holding a press conference to pat himself on the back for it.

Why is this not conspiracy and a straw man sale?

Apparently it isn't a crime if you are a grandstanding mayor of NY, who knew.

Good question. As I remember it was private detectives with video cams. Not BATFE or FBI sanctioned stings. Nor were either the BATFE or FBI involved.
He is supposedly being investigated but how far will the BATFE or the FBI actually take it ? Not far and we're not hearing about it lately.
It's not getting the actual press time it deserves for obvious reasons. But grass efforts, the NRA and JFPO have urged the Attorney General to prosicute him for this nonsense. Gonzalez is too busy answering questions about attorneys on the hill.
