We would ruck for days over mountains and through jungles to reach a village populated by “stone-aged throw-backs to evolution”, and when we got there, there would be a “Green Beret wearing SOB”, sitting there drinking hot coffee and reading that morning’s edition of the Fayetteville Observer Times."

The only kind of foreign "conflict" worth showing up for - three ribbons (lots more now days), two promotions (has to last long enough for the misadventures to assume mythical status), and max per diem with a rental car and a room in a 5-star hotel (at least on the weekends). :p The GWOT is giving the "Good Old Days" a real nostalgic glow. It gets ruff for SF at times. One time HBO was not included in my Room Bill. Also we had to stop using Avis Car Rental, because their cars didn't have CD Players, that sucked big time:(

We had unit coins made up that said, "Low Threat, High Per Diem".

We had to take that off, but it didn't stop us from spray painting it on the side of our tents.
