Very interesting read. I was on Keiths team in 11th. I only knew him for 3 drills. Keith was in B 1/11th in Tappen NY 80 t0 84 more or less. I can say I don't remember him being a rigger in BSC. I encountered him again when our team took his anti terrerism class at an airport north of Poughkeepsie, NY. At that time none of us thought he was a posser. If his claims of what he did in the late 80's and 90's are true he would have to been in a orginization doing black opps. The fact that he talks so much about these exploits in my opinion would rule that out.

I remember the initial flurry when the facility was discovered, but didn't pay all that much attention to it after that died down. There are some pretty strong feelings tossed around in that site.

KABUL, Afghanistan - An American imprisoned in Afghanistan for running a private jail for terror suspects has left the Afghan prison where he was held for almost three years and departed the country, the warden said Wednesday.
Jack Idema, a former Green Beret from Fayetteville, N.C., was pardoned by President Hamid Karzai in late March as part of a general amnesty. Rahim Ahmadzai, Idema's Afghan lawyer, said the American left the prison outside Kabul on June 2 and flew out of Afghanistan. He did not know Idema's destination.
Shamir, the warden of Policharki prison where Idema was held, said Idema had wanted to stay in Afghanistan but couldn't for legal reasons. Shamir, who like many Afghans goes by one name, said he transported Idema and his dog, Nina, to the Kabul airport for the flight out.
"He wanted to stay in Afghanistan, but there was no way for him to stay," Shamir said.
Edward P. Birsner, the consul at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, said in court documents filed in Washington this week that Idema had left for "an unknown destination."
The documents were filed in a case in which Idema accused the FBI and State Department of ordering his torture and manipulating the Afghan judicial system.
A Web site closely linked to Idema showed photos of him and his dog boarding a white transport plane in the presence of several men in Afghan army uniforms.
Idema was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Kabul court in September 2004 on charges of entering Afghanistan illegally, making illegal arrests, establishing a private jail and torturing their captives.

I was the Team Sergeant of the SCUBA TM, A-326/B/3/10 and Idema was in our company. He was a loose cannon even then, a Yamamoto Class Loose cannon (18 inch guns), and I do not know who could ever think he was a Good, much less great 18B (11B then). The one thing I remember about him was while at SCUBA school on a compass swim, his swim buddy indicated he was out of air, so Idema reached over and activated his buddy's UDT Vest, sending his swim buddy to the surface and failing the swim. IMO that is a true indication of his character. I also seem to remember that he was going to be washed out of the Q course and his father sent a lawyer down on the corporate plane to keep hhim in the course. It was supposedly the first time that had happened.
I also seem to remember that he was going to be washed out of the Q course...i went through the Weapons course and Phase III with him...it seems like every couple of weeks he'd get pulled from the course and after a day or three, he'd be back...loose cannon is an understatement...:rolleyes:

NEW YORK (AP) - A U.S. citizen once convicted of running a private jail in Afghanistan for terror suspects and torturing them has sued The Associated Press, alleging it engaged in defamation, libel and slander.
Jack Idema, a former Green Beret from Fayetteville, N.C., filed the lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan seeking at least $110,000 and other unspecified damages.
Idema, who listed a current address in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was convicted of charges including torture and operating a private jail and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Afghanistan in September He was later pardoned by Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and left that country in June.
In his lawsuit, Idema accused the AP of ignoring truths about his work in Afghanistan to generate a "hot salient and torrid story of abuse in Afghanistan" to compete with a CBS story about allegations of torture at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
He also accused the AP of reneging on promises not to publish photographs and videotaped images provided by Idema or his lawyers unless it obtained publishing rights from his licensing agent, Polaris Images.
Dave Tomlin, AP associate general counsel, said: "The whole lawsuit is nonsense. The claims that reflect on the integrity and professionalism of AP staff are especially outrageous."
According to the lawsuit, Idema had fought with the Northern Alliance against the Taliban after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and remained with the forces until June 2002, when he returned to the United States. He was not a member of the U.S. military at that time.
In April 2004, Idema was back in Afghanistan, working closely with U.S. and Afghan military and intelligence activities, the lawsuit said. He was arrested a few months later.
The U.S. military has said it accepted a prisoner from Idema before realizing he was an impostor and releasing the prisoner without charge. NATO peacekeepers have said they were duped into helping Idema on three raids.

I just wish the AP would stop using the "Jack Idema, a former Green Beret from Fayetteville" and replace it with " Jack Idema, a former Convicted Felon from Fayetteville".
If I were running the AP news stories you see his name with his convicted felon photo every day until the court date...:D
Idema suing someone? Wow, that's a shock. :rolleyes: He must be in need of some cash.
