Jerry:
With an AC Army reduced from 785,000 to 480,000, and us struggling to man 5 Groups, I would not count on us enlarging to add another Group anytime soon.
We at SWCS are having to make massive changes in staffing and support structure to graduate a sufficient number of SF soldiers to meet the current and projected force requirements for the foreseeable future.
I wish we had 4 RC SFGs still, though.
Last time I saw our old Battalion Commander, LTC George B., it was '93 or '94 and he was the DCO of 12th SFGA, IIRC.

Worked with 46th Company in 72 - 73. Now that was a fun time had by all. By then renamed to 3d Bn 1st SFG(A), if I remember correctly. Wa TDY in a Company and came back to a Bn. Never really paid much attention to the numbers.

Here are two 11th Group photos that may cause NDD to rethink his "ladies attracted to the site" comment. Check out these Birth Control Glasses (Birth Control because she ain't gonna get anywhere near you while you are wearing those). aka "Buddy Holly's" these were the only glasses the Army issued for years.
http://members.aol.com/cbjpegs/BCGlass.jpg
The photo on the left is just me helping ROTC cadets at Campbell University, NC circa 1978. The one on the right is a 3/11th SF Group AT photo from Camp Edwards, Mass. We did the operation covertly, disguised as a Military Police unit. It worked so well that an inspector from Ft. Meade, MD (COL Paul Kite) came to inspect AT and went back to Ft. Meade and reported that no SF Battalion was at Camp Edwards. (Pay no attention to the long wire antenna running the full length of the roof and adjoining baseball field). The NCO to my left is MSG Estes.

B 1/11 SF 1988-91 (Newburgh, NY)
A 1/11 SF 1992-94 (Ft. Devens)
"Survivors" of the Les Aspin/Clinton cutback wound up as a provisional D company in 1/20. At the end of 12 months, 1/20 reverted to 3 companies and the one with the lowest MOSQ was erased from the board.
Thank you Mr Clinton.
Sat out DS in Norway. We in 11th watched 20th struggling to "certify" in what was the active army's version of an old Jim Crow literacy test fo' colored folk. (If he reads the paper in English, give him one in Chinese... whatever it takes to make the "n-word" flunk). The whole army was running scared with the cuts coming on, that it wasn't going to let any Guard or Reserve combat units go forward (and it didn't). Boy, did we resent the "n-word" vibe we got from the active groups, then.
Aspin, not being the military genius he thought he was, believed that the "certification" and "inspection" results from DS/DS for the guard and reserve were actual, objective reports.
Anybody know where he's buried? I'd like to piss on his grave. We could definitely use two more SF groups right now.

I got to SFT-42 in October '73. At that time the team was located with the Thai 2d SFG at Ft Narai. Primary mission was (with the Thais) developing the Special Officer Leadership Course (SOLC) to train Cambodian 2LTs. Got one course in before deactivation in March '74.

Well this isn't turning out as well as I thought it might.
When I asked about the ROE I was informed that if someone pointed a weapon at me I had to "just" point my weapon back at them. I am forbidden to engage unless fired upon.
My natural instinct is to cap anyone that poses a threat to me or my team. If they are pointing a weapon at me they are no longer friendly. How could shooting someone under those circumstances be construed (by those we are attempting to assist) as anything but normal self defense?
I still have time before I sign on the dotted line ... what are your opinions PLEASE?:(

If you have to ask someone's opinion on what you already know in your gut then this is not the folks with which you want to serve.
