I'm not taking a position here as Bill O'Reilly did on his show, but it's interesting that the MSM is not covering this, but only Fox News.

Till this past couple of years, the mainstream American has not thought about illegal immigration. Now we're hearing about crime statistics, economic impact, and even now deaths from a Hispanic drunken driver. This is not to presume or suggest that this is en epidemic, rather a look at an tragedy that may have prevented through tougher laws on DUI offenders and illegal immigrants.

Director of Classic Christmas Movie Dies
By VOA News
05 April 2007

U.S. filmmaker Bob Clark, who directed the classic A Christmas Story, has been killed in a head-on car crash at the age of 67.

Clark and his 22-year-old son were driving along a major highway near Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon when their car was struck head-on by another vehicle. Clark's son was also killed in the crash. Authorities say the driver is facing charges in the case.

Clark's 1982 Christmas classic was based on the writings of humorist Jean Shepherd. The movie was a modest success at the box office, but has become a holiday classic through repeated airings on U.S. cable television. Clark also directed the 1981 hit comedy Porky's and its sequel two years later.

He also directed several other films, working with such actors as Sylvester Stallone, Gene Hackman, and Dan Ackroyd.

Man Pleads Not Guilty in Director Crash
Apr 6, 7:47 PM EST

A driver arrested after the crash that killed "A Christmas Story" director Bob Clark and his son pleaded not guilty Friday to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Prosecutors say Hector Velazquez-Nava, a 24-year-old Mexican national, was drunk when he steered his sport utility vehicle into the wrong lane of Pacific Coast Highway early Wednesday, and struck Clark's sedan. Clark, 67 and his son, Ariel Hanrath-Clark, 22, died at the scene.

Velazquez-Nava had a blood-alcohol level of 0.24 percent, three times the legal limit, authorities said. Both he and his passenger were treated for minor injuries.

"The family of Velazquez-Nava ... are very much hurt and they want to offer their deepest condolences to the family, to the Clark family," said defense attorney John Borges.

Velazquez-Nava was being held on $200,000 bail, although a federal immigration hold prevents him from posting bail. Immigration officials have said he is in the country illegally.

If convicted, he could face at least 10 years in state prison, prosecutors said.

Ten years for taking a life while here ILLEGALLY, and drunk. Nice.

According to this article, Bush has a rather very conservative proposal on illegal immigration that he is putting forth.

Personally I'd call this the "Catch up provision" I've paid taxes all my adult life, never missed a deadline and in my current profession I have never recieved a tax return. On the 15th of April I am alway's paying out of pocket, never recieving a return check. This is fairly common for independently contracted advisors that are in the upper income bracket. Just once I'd love to be able to say that I'm going to recieve a check for an income tax return. This brings us to the illegal immigrants. While I realize that they are working for low wages, they must still pay taxes if they are going to recieve the benefits that tax payers recieve. Around here the Emergency Rooms are filled with the illegal immigrants using this facility as their primary care option. If I use it, and the VA does not pay the claim (they usually do not without an appeal) I am hunted down and pestered by the billing department and outside recovery agencies. I once sat in a conference room with 3 attorney's over a $1,500 bill for ER services that the VA denied claims. I wonder if any of the illigal immigrants get that kind of warm welcome from the recovery attorney's ?

Immigrants rights ? Why has it become mainstream to assume that illegals have rights ? I certainly dont have all the answers, but as Fred Thompson said "It's interesting that Mexico's economic stability is dependent on its exportation of it's citizens" While I agree that this measure seems fairly costly for illegals to become citizens, perhaps it's just like saying "Pay your back due taxes and then you'll get your card"

My mom was almost killed by an illegal immigrant running a stop light going 65 mph, in a 45. Had my mother proceeded into the intersection 1 second earlier she would have been T-boned. Instead she T-boned the SOB. :D And she was left with only minor injuries.

The pickup the illegal was driving was owned by his white employer. He promptly paid all damages. Do not think the police did anything with the illegal. This was in VA.

Interesting article in the paper recently where it talked about the average cost for the American taxpayer for each illegal residing in the country. This made an assumption that the illegal was taking in around 20- 30K a year under the table. Considering average family size etc, that bill for a U.S. TAXPAYERS was significant...to the tune of 40K per year, per illegal.

Not to mention that EXTRA coverage you have on your car insurance ....I think mine is referred to as "Mexican driver" coverage......
