D.C............high crime rates, illiteracy, strong gun control. Anybody else see a trend line that is disturbing ? And a Mayor that is known for soliciting prostitution and smoking crack !
Any similarities to New Orleans ?

The dems don't have the corner on idiocy
Who's talking about idiocy? Illiterate was the word........ those that are usually need a lot of help from the govt.
And I do not disagree with your statement. I just don't link idiocy with being illiterate.

The Fayetteville Observer is running a special on the achievement gap in the local schools. The focus is on E.E. Smith and Westover.
http://www.fayobserver.com/article?id=257584
They love to focus on the high % who get free/reduced lunch from the areas but the papers own investigation has proved those numbers to be bogus. The schools want the extra federal money so push parents and students to lie on the applications.
When E.E. Smith came out as a failing school a bunch of the parents and students bailed and went to Ried Ross. Did they come ready to learn? No they brought the same proplems to Reid Ross.
18 months of public ed remaining. The little one is in private school.
Guys if you are coming to Fayettevile to buy a home CHECK THE SCHOOL AREAS.
The people who bought down by Jack Britt are going to get a rude kick in the next few years.

Two things.... 1. What do you classify as a government empolyee? I work for the Federal government and I am paid for my work....others are simply paid by the Federal government. so does that make them a defacto employee?
2. From my experience here, a great majority of the 1/3 are government employees in one of the two forms.

I have a 3 yr old and a 2 yr old, we will put them in a private pre-school, but when they start kindergarten, we will probable home school them for as long as we are here at Bragg.

If you can't afford private schooling or support home schooling, you might want to get quarters on post so you have access to DOD schools. It's a viable plan for elementary and middle school. Unfortunately the high schools are in Cumberland County. We have some friends who recently moved on post to escape the Hoke County School System. FWIW - Peregrino

If I may, Seventy-First High School is pretty good. My son is a Junior there, and transferred at the school break after Christmas. He is in Advanced Placement courses, and those are pretty intense and well taught, with frequent updates from the teachers. That being said, I can't speak for the "regular" curriculum, but my son likes the school itself.
He has attended DoDDS schools in Korea, on Fort Bragg, and at Fort Meade. I WILL say that the DoDDS schools are superior; whenver he transfers, he is ahead of the schools that he transfers to.

Long Hill Elem. - If you can't get on base find a place to rent/buy that serves Long Hill Elem. School, 2nd choice Howard Hall Elem. Both are on the north side of Fayetteville and have easy access to Ft Bragg.
Both feed into the Pine Forest schools. Not bad. A lot of the year rounders switched from R. Ross to Pine Porest when they hit High School.
I don't track schools on the South Side of the county or east of the river. An article on Jack Britt H.S. was/is in today's paper. Don't have time to dig up the link, I got to run early.

As an immigrant I found the lack of a strong mathematics program in grade/middle school, dissapointing. If you find that your school starts teaching algebra in 6th grade, you are good to go.

American public schools are notoriously weak in math and hard sciences, having to devote time to meaningless "feel good" subjects and diversity programs. My daughter was recently forced to watch "An Inconvenient Truth" as part of her 6th Grade program.
The public school curriculum today is geared towards the graduation of the lowest common denominator, rather than every student being allowed to reach their full potential.
It is a tragedy, is driving increasing enrollment in private schools and home schooling, and IMHO, is socialist in nature, being promoted by the NEA and PTA with their agendas.

Moore County public schools are among the best in the area, and they are not perfect.

In the private high school that I went to, we had old school teachers. They would quiz you everyday, call you to the board, and etc. They educated us the proper way. Really it is up to the teacher and the kind of director/principal in charge that determines the kind of education one receives.
I can't describe the burden lifted from my shoulders since we started using a private school. If I knew private school would improve our quality of life this much. I would of found a way to pay the tuition when I was in the Army. Being able to spend quality time with your kids instead of time doing the teachers job every night makes all the difference. It's the way public schools should be.
It's amazing that our kids are no longer accused of having some type of learning disorder, problems at home....etc. Must of been something in the public schools water. It couldn't of been the schools fault they weren't learning:rolleyes:
My Daughter now understands that Martin Luther King was never president of the United States.
