Retired Army Special Forces Maj. Herbert Brucker, 85, passed away Friday, March 16, 2007, in Carroll S. Roberson Hospice Center in Fayetteville with his family at his side.
He was born Oct. 10, 1921, to the late Ernest and Gertrude Brucker in West New York, N.J.
He was a World War II veteran and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross, French Croix de Guerre with Silver Star and the World War II Victory Medal. He proudly served his country for more than 20 years before honorably retiring. He was a member of the original cadre of Special Forces and the designer of the Green Beret. He was a member of the Special Forces Association, the Special Forces Decade Association and the Office of Strategic Services Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lieselotte “Lilo” Brucker.
He is survived by a son, Richard Ernest Brucker, and a daughter-in-law, Priscilla “Elaine” Brucker, both of Fayetteville; a brother, Ernest William Brucker of Florida; a granddaughter, Samantha Lynn Brucker of Fayetteville; a grandson, Richard Eric Brucker of Fayetteville; and two nephews, Achim Fischer and Herbert Fischer, both of Bad Homburg, Germany.
The family will receive friends at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2007, in the chapel of Rogers and Breece Funeral Home with a military chaplain officiating. He will be laid to rest in Lafayette Memorial Park with the rendering of full military honors.
Pallbearers will be the United States Army Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Special Forces Decade Association.
