Calling in SARS Helicopter for Medical Evacuation

Hi

I have been asked to put together a plan by the state police department for a medical evacuation by air in an outdoor event I am organizing next month. I have ZERO experince in an air evacuation.

Would anyone have any tips on going about putting together a plan, given I have identified the relevant spots that seem to be big enough to accomodate a Sea King helo?

One item I used to do in addition to the nine-line posted in the other reply, is to make contact with your SAR resource. They may have a completely different plan. There may be costs for being on stand by, picking up patients.
There are also other questions to ask them. (Most you have probably thought of.)
What is their response time to your general area?
Do they have special equipment-hoist, etc? And if so do they need specially trained personnel on the ground.
Do they have a certain way to set up the LZ, minimum requirments.
That slide show is a very good start. Make sure all your folks are trained on how to do a nine-line, if that's what you're going to use.

Good points there ada..will def. take that into account....I think this will help form a decent plan of action...hopefully, we wont need helo evacutations of any sorts...

With regards to civilian evacuation planning, I can offer some insight given that this is part of the duties I currently perform in the civilian sector...


Call around. Figure out what assets, number of patients, and requirements each individual service has. Here in alaska, I have basically 3 options, 2 civilian fixed wing medical platforms, one casualty for one company, 2 for the other. My third and worst case option is to go thru the troopers and have the Medevac company fly out with a UH-60 with tanks and turnstile. Their 1SG, who I spoke to directly to figure out capabilities and capacity, said that "We WILL GET THERE if called. Period"

The companies or units that you contact will be able to give you SPECIFIC guidance as to what they want on the ground for an emergency evacuation scenerio, as well as they can tell you WHO is actually able to call for a mission launch. For the 2 civilian companies here, I can call them direct, tell them what we have and they're in the air in 30 minutes. For the MAST unit, I have to call the troopers, and hope that they launch them.

Basically, each company that is out there has different requirements on-scene before they will do a mission... which is why the company I am contracted to dropped 15 grand on solar lighting for the airstrip at this location, in order to facilitate an emergency medevac, as well as later flights for other purposes.
