My TS on ODA 522, MSG Don Ringley, did some time in the 8th. He told me they had Che's pen mounted in the B team HQ...is that pen still around somewhere?

Right on. Surprised SF Command hasn't added it to their command brief...

When I reported to A-1/5 in 1978, I had occasion to hear the story and see the plaque in B Co.'s HQ. IIRC the pen in question looked a lot like a black "Skillcraft". Being young and impressionable (but not necessarilly stupid) when told "the original was removed for safekeeping", I nodded sagely and moved out smartly. The Good Lord alone knows what became of it. We can thank the Q.P.'s once again for their invaluable help taking out this asshole as well.

During Phase 2, one of my fellow classmates was given the assignment to research Che as punishment for some minor discipline issue. After his presentation the course NCOIC gave us a bit of a history lesson which mirrors this memo. He did give marksmanship credit for the initial wounding of Che to a young soldier from the south with a M-14. Great find, should be in the museum.
