One of the last of the Bedford boys passed away on Feb 26, obituary below:

"Earl Randolph Newcomb, 93 of Bedford, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in a local nursing home. He was born Oct. 12, 1913, in Goode, a son of the late Samuel Ralph Newcomb and Annie Wilson Newcomb and the step-son of the late Virgie Lacy Newcomb.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his faithful and devoted wife of 62 years, Elva Zimmerman Newcomb, a devoted step-daughter, Nancy Newman and two brothers, William Robert Newcomb and Samuel Ralph Newcomb.

He graduated from New London Academy in 1932. After graduating, he worked for two CCC Camps. He joined Company A of The National Guard in the Late 1930s. He served as the Mess Sergeant for Company A 116th Infantry. He was a D-Day veteran and one of the Bedford Boys. Earl was known for his great cooking and was an avid poker player. He was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church and the 29th Division Association and was a retired farmer."
