Last one.
I know Team Sarn't. I need a new camera. I would have sent it to TR for photo spread, but I need my ruck and after our last exchange I am not sure if I would be getting it back in a timely manner.
SC, did you have the long side panels channeled, or are they sewn along all four edges?

Razor:
As you can see I decided against the fastex buckle closure on the tops of the side panels. Along with the stitching on the 4 sides I did have the panels sewn to the pack on every other row of PALS to keep whatever I attach from bowing forward/down.
What do ya think?

I think that is the finest PINK ALICE pack I have ever seen. Did you bleach it?
What interesting colors are the rest of your TA-50?
You might have had a stiffener like Kydex sewn in, and left the tops open for slip pockets. Just a thought.

No Sir I did not bleach it. The Sun did however. It was a hand-me-down from a Ranger friend of mine and it has definately seen some long days. Its more tan now than OD.
I had given thought to slip pockets. I had discussed it with Razor but changed my mind last minute while the panels were being sewn to the pack. I will probably do so if I do another one of these.
Nice work. Large Alice....so you could fit a large Alice's ass in it. With all the molle type chicken plate carriers, vests/lbe and other shit on, who would want to attach more stuff to the outside of a rucksack? They were made approximately the width of a beerbellied green beret, and when you add all that sling loaded, tie me down and weave me in stuff.....you aint going to get much noise discipline out of it when moving TACTICALLY through brush or jungle. I like to punish myself with weight and carry the kitchen sink, but the thought of a two quart canteen, extra magazine pouches, radios, gas masks, flash bang pouches, etc.etc. make me envision a platoon of IOBC candidates on a day trip in free pineland jinglin and clinkin through the woodline. Maybe in the desert.

I guess its a good thing I did not remove all the pockets and sew PALS channels all the way around. :D
EDITED TO ADD: In keeping with the 3 rules of SF.
1.) I have no idea who came up with the idea first.
2.) All I know is it was not me.
3.) Actually I think it may have been a guy from Gucci Group...errr I mean 10th Group.
lolol
Not trying to be a hardass. It all depends on the environment you're working in. Many occasions afford the ability to carry it all on the outside, some require max stealth and slimlined movement ability. It's an addiction we get and we like sew loops on shit. Even our wives', or in my case 20 year old girlfriendS', panties so we can keep a pouch with the KY Jelly, Viagra and/or oh don't forget a cold beer or two.......

If that color change is due strictly to age, you'd better be careful !! If that was caused by UV exposure it could disintegrate on you with little to no warning !! Back in the '70s there was an AD on some Parachute Canopies that had been inspected, at the time of manufacture, with a "High Intensity" UV Light to detect defects. These things would break down between repacks. A perfectly good "Thumb-Punch" test one time and at the next repack, would fall apart in your hands !!!! I saw them on several different occasions !!
If the discoloration is due to a "normal" degredation of the dye, that is a different issue.
Nylon, Sunlight/Fluorescent Lights and Time do not mix well at all.
Take care.

I apologize if the tone of my last post led you to believe I thought I had been 'chewed.' That was not my intent. I appreciate your candor.
I understand what you were infering. I cant leave well enough alone it seems sometimes. I do the same here at the FD, except where OSHA and NFPA can stick their respective, unwanted noses.

AM:
Its just normal wear I believe, not that I would know what normal is. I have had it weighed down pretty heavily (prior to being counseled by TR about weight) and it has not given way yet. The entire body of the pack has faded the same color, even the back of the pack has faded some so I am not too concerned with it coming apart.
It is really not as bad as the pics make it out to be. I think the light and lack of a good camera is a large contributor in the appearance.
Thank you for the tips though. Anything else you can share ever is appreciated.
Have a good evening.

No worries, SC...I'll be sure to 'hook you up' on this next project. You wanted 'em in purple Cordura, right? ;)
Karma being what it is, you may want to do some research into digging snow caves after that comment.

Yes Sir. It should match my pink Ruck perfectly. I will fit in perfectly if I ever get deployed to San Fransisco.

He got a good deal on a roll of purple and is trying to dispose of it, mainly to noobs.

I told him it would be fine as long as it was trimmed in gold and had a Crown Royal patch in the middle:p

First HST and then alcohol, I am beginning to regret my earlier comments about you catching on quickly.
Are you old enough to be legally drinking CR?
TR
Drink, No; Advertise for, Yes.
What can I say; I am a sucker for individual stuff

Sweet mods Razor......
Any luck modding assault packs that way???? (Both mine are BHI-old stuff.)
Kinda like a custom "Raid" pack from LF....
I just completed my version of the ALICE pack with PALS idea.
Pack is the Large sized ALICE.
Attached frame is the Mystery Ranch NICE v. 2.
I bought all of the webbing and fabric from http://www.diytactical.com
Be advised, DIY Tactical sells out quickly and it takes a while for them to get restocked.
Webbing is 1 in. Webbing, Coyote Brown, 43668 Type III
Storm flap is made from MARPAT, 70D 1.9 oz Ripstop with Blackout Coating (waterproof, tan side out)
Velcro is 3 inch wide, Olive drab
Fastex buckles are in Foliage Green
If you have any questions feel free to send me a PM.
Here's a question...how long did all that PALS stitching take? Nice looking project!

If you guys are modding rucks - I'm not too far from Seattle Fabrics - ask Crip about the quality of the webbing - I hadn't seen this ruck mod, I got 3 yds of OD 2" webbing and 6 yds of black 2" webbing, with 6 or 8 fasteners for a 'care package' because that was the kind of stuff we always needed and had a hard time finding way back in the dark ages...
Here's the link - they carry sailing and outdoor fabrics of all kinds at great prices:

The brick and mortar store is hard to find - it's behind a huge photinia hedge and only has about 10 parking spots - DO NOT BRING ANY MORE $$ THAN YOU WISH TO PART WITH - they have goretex cordura and goretex ripstop in tactical colors/paterns... you have been warned.

first, nice job on that ruck. Just lookin at it it reminds me of the old Indidge rucks . I loved them, but they may be a bit small for winter work. Dave

Makes me think about making some Large Multi-cam ALICE packs with PALS. :p
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
