I'd say a lot of background study went into that before the jumper got out of the chopper.
The sky gods can comment more on the wings used to improve glide ratio.
I'll stick with the rope.

Since I do skydive in the warm months, all I can say it that BASE jumping off of cliffs like that is pure crazy !!!!
I saw some of this same type of BASE jumping on XYZ Planet on Encore Channel and couldn't believe how close they come to the rock, let alone on the last two thousand feet of the dive. Most were using the "Bat Wing" jump suit with an Aerodyne "Mamba" main canopy. I dont honestly think a standard MC-4 has enough glide ratio to make that jump. I could be wrong, but you need a main that has more advanced toggle response and faster stall recovery than some of the older mains.

Far-fetched maybe, but it would be interesting to see if it could be adapted (from a tactical standpoint) to increase standoff distance/capability.
