Iraq Trip Convinces Pelosi No Military Solution Is Possible
[National Journal’s CongressDailyAM, January 31, 2007]
Nancy Pelosi and the members of a bipartisan she led to Iraq and Afghanistan claim to be filled with pride for the U.S. troops serving in those countries, but she is more convinced than ever that a military solution isn’t possible in Iraq.

Just think she spent a whole bunch of money to make a trip to draw a conclusion after an indepth study of the situation on the ground. Makes you really wonder if these clowns and clownettes have any clue what an insurgency is all about. Talk about a Blinding Flash of the Obvious for the "most powerful woman in the world" to draw.

All it is, is a shameless act of self-promotion on an unpopular war.

Col. Jack,

It feels like she is trying to establish "street cred" by going over there. This way, she can say, "I was there personally, and I don't see a possible military solution". I believe that she hopes this will serve her well later, when she is trying to undo any good we've done by pushing for a complete pullout (we'll probably have to apologize, too  ). After all, she saw what was going on with her own eyes, didn't she?

What probably really happened was that she spoke with the people she wanted to (that would support her opinion), paid a token visit to our troops (which really steams me, but that's another argument), and took advantage of a couple of photo ops. I firmly believe that this was all just for show.

And, as you point out, she STILL doesn't get it.

It will be interesting to see where things go from here.

Hope all is well with you and the family.

People hear what supports their views. People find what they want to find.

The trip was a waste of her time and tax payers $$$$$$.

The LEFT was wrong in the 60's and 70's, and they are wrong now.

The question is "how do we make a majority of Americans see the light" and recognize the danger of quitting?

Why don't the politicians work on political, economic, and diplomatic solutions and leave the military solutions to the chain of command?

I looked it up this morning, and unless the POTUS and VPOTUS are dead, Pelosi is not in it, so she should have a great big cup of STFU and quietly offer any intelligent suggestions she might have gathered to the CoC.

It is all about ego! Gaining more territory! Keeping you name in the news to help your re-election efforts. Those piss heads know the Prez is the Commander and sets foreign policy........ it eats at them that they can't do anything about his authority so no matter what the Prez does it is wrong!

There is a bunch of people on this site who would do better in DC.....because they understand duty and honor.......and their first deciding factor in making a decision will not be "will it help or hurt my chance for re-election"!

Exactly. She went with preconceived notions and came with the same.

Did she go thinking anyone might say Kudos for braving such danger? Or the dream of "let me see for myself how icky it is so I can say 'I hear ya Brother' to the military."

These trips remind me of "double-dog-dare" or worse yet, Hillary did it so Nancy has to keep up with her.

You wouldn't catch me within thousands of miles of Iraq or Afghanistan. I'd just be a PITA in a no distraction zone.

Could not have been said better.

I have the unfortunate duty of seeing/protecting these folks when they fly through my TAOR, they're on the ground at our location for less than a day, then fly to a few other places in the AOR to have their pictures taken, often returning here before going back CONUS. I love  how when they come back through they pretend to know exactly what is going on and how to fix all the problems, or in this case how there is no solution so we should just cut and run. The only things they see are the dog and pony shows that are set up for them, and even then they only see what they want too. The only folks they actually hear are those who support their preconceived notions, and all of this is done on our tax dollars. It really is a shame that our politicians do not understand what it is to serve, maybe if more of them had actually worn a uniform they would get it.

It pisses me off to think they might actually convince the public to support pulling out before we've accomplished our mission. I wish they would get a clue and understand that pulling out isn't supporting the troops. It's stepping on the troops who have all sacrificed a great deal to win this war, especially those of our brothers and sisters who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

I wonder if the Dem's have ever thought about trying to out-do the POTUS's foreign policy with something like: constantly applied over-whelming force. This idea might actually garner some support from those who want to leave AFTER WE FINISH IT!

How many days did she spend over there, and suddenly she's a freakin' expert? Who are her advisors, Sean Penn?

3 Days, that was the duration of her trip, and that's for Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. I read her bio, and I don't recall seeing any military experience yet she presumes to know more about the war than the folks with decades of experience in that region and in the military in general, as incommin said it's all about ego, and hers is HUGE! To think that after spending 72 hole hours in what I'm sure were the safest respective spots in those 3 countries she has all the answers, she needs to pull her head out of her 4th point of contact!

Where are the IED's when you need them?
Oh, that's right, she only went to clean and sterile areas where every 2nd person was either US military, Secret Service, or a Security Contractor... She saw a whole lot, yuppers, she sure did, she saw what the DNC wanted her to see and had set up with the 'powers that be'. Shoulda given her armor, a rifle and embedded her with an Infantry Company on Patrol outside the Green Zone for 2 weeks - she might have changed her mind then.

I think the conclusions were written before they left the States.

Below is a video of Pelosi in Baghdad. While the audio is not the greatest, it is easy to hear the General's optimistic responses to some of her questions. Later, Pelosi can be heard asking an Intel Sgt. about the intel that got us into Iraq.

It's depressing for me to read about this "support", but I can't imagine what the joe's are feelling when they have to watch/hear this stuff all the time...

I guess I am naive or stupid, but I would like to think that good things are going on as well and that we can change the outcome of things there if we are "allowed" to...
