Recommended reading for aspiring 18Ds

As I have been researching SF in general and the 18D MOS specifically, I have come across a book that I found incredibly helpful in understanding what the SF medic really does.

Yes, there are small stories here and there, and the job descriptions that can be found on-line, but this book went into a high level of vivid detail; very well written.

Warrior Healers - The untold story of the Special Forces medic - Book 1: The Beginning.
Leonard D Blessing Jr.

Warrior Healers mainly focuses on the Foreign Internal Defense (FID) & Unconventional Warfare (UW) part of the SF mission.

To gain a similar understanding of the 18Ds role in the Direct Action (DA) part of the SF mission; I would recommend "Rough-Neck Nine-One" which has been extensively discussed on this site.

I found, as Frank Antenori's original MOS was as an 18D, the book to provide excellent examples of the mass crisis events that an 18D is required to handle.

If you could be so helpful as to...
- State full title of book, author etc
- How you feel the book would specifically assist the aspiring / training 18D

On my first rotation (Richmond), every time I worked in a new department, I explained why I was there, what I expected I would do on a team (to the best of my understanding, having not BTDT) and asked if they would recommend books to help build a working reference library. I have a pretty good list going so far, but would really dig having some titles that you've found to be particularly useful. On another thread x-sf-med offered up a couple as well. . .

Just like it says....put any book you like here....just explain how it will specifically assist the aspiring 18D. Either in the SFAS pipeline; or in the 18D ‘Q’. Preferable not books that assist new or existing 18Ds. Too much to chew on all at once! And this question has been covered somewhat, elsewhere on this site.

Len Blessing's book it the best one out. Another author (Barr) will have one out in about another year. Yes, Frank A., who tired to run for congress in the last election, was an 18D & a JSOMTC instructor for me.
