I am sure that if John Edwards is elected, he will consider tort reform as one of his top priorities.

Unfortunatly I wanted to see some of the comments posted with the news article, since apparently they run a blog instead of a news service....and there were quite a few folks that nailed it.
I think Ambrose Bierce's "Devil's Dictionary" nailed this one back in the 1880's. If there is lawyer, or attorney attached to a name (add names at will) you can just expect:
"LAWYER, n. One skilled in circumvention of the law."

Well I'll say! My three rules for living are:
1. Any two cases are just alike.
2. No two cases are anything alike.
3. All statutes, rules, and regulations are ambiguous.
I read the article about a candy-ass American lawyer suing a big rich London hotel and I don't know who to cheer for--sort of like Alien v. Predator, I guess.
They were there five days and didn't ask for another room? In the legal world we call that "failure to mitigate damages." Five days of bug bites and itchy red skin? In the LE world we call that "a clue."
John Edwards? oh please.
But I've also seen enough myself that I don't automatically believe what I read in the papers. There may be a lot more to the story than they're telling us.
I'll bet he backs down. As an American who's sued a Brit company (and won) I have to say the deck is stacked in favor of the Brits. Unless things have changed, foreign litigants have to put into escrow the anticipated legal fees of the opposing counsel (you lose, you pay their fees as well as your own) plus the estimated penalties from any counter-suit.
Kinda focuses the mind. They don't have many frivolous suits over there.
