View Full Version : 5.11 group buy
Ok folks you asked for it. I talked to the bossman here this morning about a possible group buy. He told me to get an order together of exactly what we want and he will tell me how much of a deal he can get. He needs the info by 11:30 monday morning, so if you are interested, reply with what you would order (i.e. vest, pants, etc), how many, as well as colors and sizes. Good Day,
Blake

Thanks, Blake!
Tell the owner we appreciate it.
If the price is right, my starting order would be:
1 Khaki Vest
1 Khaki Trousers
1 Black Trousers
1 Gray Shorts
1 Khaki Shorts
1 Black L/S Shirt
1 Khaki S/S Shirt
2 Polo Shirts, would have to check colors
Sizes on the 5.11 in the local store seem to run small, I would check sizes and get back to you.

This is my duty uniform now and I have a backorder already in that I can cancel. Depending on price:
Pants - black - 36W/34L - 2 ea
Pants - OD - 36W/34L - 2 ea
Polo Shirt - Black - XL - 2 ea
Polo Shirt - Navy - XL - 2 ea
Long sleeve Shirt - Black - XL - 2 ea
Long sleeve shirt - khaki - XL - 2 ea
Vest - OD - XL - 1 ea
Let me know if we come up short on what we need for approval or to drive the price down and I'll recruit.
18Xers - This clothing is what you should wear instead of jeans with holes in them and "Death from Above" T shirts. Very nice casual wear, especially when starched.

To all--
I have not tried one of there shirts...Do you guys find that the L and XL run close to standard (U.S.) L and XL shirts sizes?
I might need to alter my order.
Let it be known that any further unsolicited modifications of Air.177's Avatar or sigline could jeopardize any pending, current, or future assistance with Group deals on my part.

I don't have one yet, but have been told to order up one size as they shrink. The pants and vests I have didn't shrink, but we don't use a dryer.
Thank you for pointing that out, RL

I would, but I need this stuff yesterday. I also just got a call from my local dealer after placing an order on her site. She is bending over backwards for me to get this stuff by Tuesday and is even throwing in some freebies. Very nice lady, active LEO, does this on the side but is an authorized 5.11 dealer and she takes good care of the soldiers overseas. She has been sending care packages to Afghanistan and Iraq since this all started, has info on her site about it. I am going to her home tomorrow to pick up what she has in stock.
Oh yeah, she tells me the sizes run slightly large.

Let it be known that you already have over a $1,000 order.
Also let it be known that the goodness of the deal may affect the return of said sig line and avatar to normalcy.
I am having a mag-freaking-nificent day, as usual, thanks!
To all, the vests seem to me to be a bit small. I am normally an XL, to get one loose enough to allow a concealed belt holster carry, I had to go up one size to an XXL.

Air.177,
How do you want this to work b/c I think I will need to modify my order.
Are you going to submit peoples posts as your final list/order or are these (posts) being used as an interest meter of sorts?
Also how do you want payment to happen? Credit Card, Paypal, etc.
psst....btw I wouldn't threaten these guys...I bet they would react very Negatively towards anyone who threatend them:D

As to the psst..., Not to worry, he has me covering his 6 !!
This is an exercize to see how many pieces we can bring together.
Where he works, they do MILLIONS worth yearly.
He's just trying to put together a "Deal" for US !!! I'll be the "Money Front" on this. We'll work out the details once this is finalized. As Bill Eng once told me,.................that's another story.

I have bought from him. Great deals on ammo.
How big do you guys want this to get?....I could always recruit guys at work? I don't know how receptive they would be but quite a few guys wear 5.11 gear all the time I'm sure they would like an "in". But if that could/would jeoprodize the deal then forget I ever brought it up.

Big is the whole idea here. If we put together a $1K order, that isn't shit, but if we come up with a $10K+ that means that they can reduce the price and still make some coin !!!! We will have to work out the delivery side, but this could become a very good, "Periodic" deal.

Picked up my 5.11 tactical shirts today, very nice. You guys ordering 5.11 for the first time will not be disappointed. Picked up two LS, two SS, and two polo in medium. Perfect fit, I wear a 42 in sports coats and fall just between medium and large in t-shirts. I get my vest and pants tuesday, ordered a large in the vest since I will be wearing level 4 body armor under it. Also have more shirts coming in tuesday.

1 more vest - large - khaki
1 more navy tactical pants - 36W/30L
I'm going to give them to Catwoman's dad . . .
Any Others?
This is just a prelimenary list, so changes aren't a problem.
If you have changes to your list, please just put them in a new post so that AM or I will see them. Unless anyone has anything else in the next few minutes, I will go ahead and check on pricing.

Three Questions for the knowledgeable:
1- Do the academy or tactical short models have belt loops sufficient for a sturdy leather belt ? From the pics, it looks like it has an elastic waist with no belt loops or very few of them. I carry IWB so I need a pair short that allows for a belt. Suggestions?
2. I assume that a 43 chest coat should order a XL vest if going to carry concealed underneath?
3. Which of the two shorts are longer?
My shorts are the Tactical type and My Blackhawk 1.75" instructor belt fits just fine. I believe that the Academy shorts are shorter.

I don't want to get a pair of shorts that look like I was a member of SOLID's favorite 80's group WHAM!!! I gonna have to have FAITH that you guys will tell me the correct information and "wake me up" before I go make a bad decision:p
Crip:
I have spoken with G Company today and they would like for you to report to SFAS in 5.11 tactical shorts and a Polo Shirt. Something about treating you like the pool boy they caught at therir house, or something like that.
Sac:
1. Maybe my eyes are worse than I thought, but every pair I see seem to have belt loops just adjacent to the closing snap. I suspect that they are the same as the tactical pants, and have fewer, but wider loops than regular slacks. I am currently wearing mine with a 1.75" Kramer Horsehide belt holding up my pants and a Para P12 in a Kramer MSP Horsehide holster.
2. You may be GTG with a Large, I am a 46 jacket and need at least an XL, if not a XXL. According to their size chart, you should be in a Large, at the most.
3. If you went to the 511tactical.com web site and did a little research, you would discover that the respective size panels list the Tactical Short at a 9" inseam, and the Bluewater Short at a 6.5" inseam. Assuming that your wife/Mom do not buy all of your clothes for you, which do you think is longer?
Seriously, I would recommend that you look at the web site and visit a local store that carries 5.11 gear and try them on. How far are you from Ft. Polk? There has to be something of value around that place.

Agreed, thank you both very much for your hard work.
This past weekend, I found out that 5.11 also has great customer service. I fell and ripped the crotch out of a brand new pair of 5.11 pants, the second time I wore them. Last Monday, I called 5.11 customer service and explained what had happened and all they asked was what size, color, and where I would like the replacements shipped. I had the pants in hand by thursday afternoon as well as a new 5.11 hat. When I asked them if they wanted the torn pants back, their response was just a simple,"No." Glad these folks stand by their products.
Jeez, in this country you need to take the CEO hostage to even get them to contemplate replacing damaged goods!

A size 10W should do it. Are these the issue versions? Those would be fine. Nothing fancy needed....unless you guys have a lead on the desert version of the Oakleys. Hey, RL, was your Samoan Attorney correct when he told you that you would like this stuff?
Has my Samoan Attorney ever been wrong?
Just unwrapped the stuff last night. It is being washed today, and I'll wear some of it shortly and report back. The vest definitely is cool, and I am glad I ordered it.
Now I guess I'll need to get stuff to go in all the pockets, right? LOL

Very comfortable gear. I especially like the long and short sleeve shirts, which I had not worn before. Lots of cool features.
Vest is for carrying civilian second line gear. Cell phone, Surefire light, OC spray, ASP baton, PDA, multi-tool, firearms (if legal) and spare ammo, beverages in the left and right back pockets (holds 1 l. Nalgene bottles very nicely), survival or med kits, glasses, etc.
Glad that you approve. :D

I have found that the Collapsible 32oz. Nalgene Cantenes fit in the vest pockets quite well also.

What is the purpose of the "utility strap" above the back pocket? Or the uses you've made of it?

These pants were originally designed for climbers. The web is for hanging Carabiners on.

For those of you who don't know...
Royal Robbins (the man who started the company) is a famous rock climber from the 50's-60's who developed alot of the trad climbing methods used today. He made the first ascents of many famous routes here in the US and overseas, to include the first free ascent of Half Dome in Yosemite.

I wore the pants to work today. LOL
They are very comfortable, but the pockets take some getting used to. I am used to putting my wallet in my back pocket, but it rests against the back of my thigh in these pants!
With all these pockets, I definitely am going to need more gear.

As an attorney, I am surprised that you carry a wallet.
I though you guys just took whoever's was closest for walking around money, and had an armored car carry the real bucks.
Seriously, I carry a Credit card wallet in a front pocket, and my larger wallet in a cargo pocket.

Q: How can you tell when it's -really- cold outside?
A: You go out and see a lawyer walking around with his hands in his -own- pockets.

The velcro on the pockets of the shorts and the pants, but especially the shorts. Doesn't close so well, and seems like it will wear very quickly.
Not a big deal, but I think I'd prefer something other than velcro.

Got some two years old, fabric starting to wear through, Velcro still holding on.
Never seen a lawyer take out a wallet, though, how do you plan to wear the Velcro out?

Lawyers do take their wallets out... where do you think they keep those corporate gold cards for those three martini lunches at Morton's? :D

Add weapons cleaning solvents and lubes, dirt, blood, diesel, etc., and you have an SF comparison.
