From a friend:
"A fellow is trying to smooch his way into my family (thru a lonely aunt).
"He claims to be a Green Beret "sniper"; with 9 years in VN. Claims 63 confirmed kills -
"Name is Peter Heyward.
"Do you know of this guy, or do you know of a Green Beret website that outs posers that I can check up on him.
"He doesn't smell too good, and when I ask him details about it, or details "about the weapons, he seems to have little information, and blows off the questions with, "I don't want to think or talk about, it was too traumatic!".
Thanks for any help you can be on this one... my aunt has had her heart broke too many times already."
Will follow up with more details. Would prefer response thru the Team Room. I think it's a bullshit call but will post further info as I get it. SWC and SFA won't open until after the holidays.

9 years? Wow. I'm sure AM will be along before too long. FWIW, after viewing past outings this looks like another one.

Nine years in country as a soldier is almost certainly bogus. He would have had to have been there from '64 to '73, when we pulled out to have accomplished that.
63 sniper kills is a lot as well. I think that Bert Waldron was the top with 113, then Carlos Hathcock at 93.
Surely, someone over at the Sniper School keeps the books on that and would be easy to check out.
Frankly, with the info provided, I would lay this as about a 95% BS story.

I am allowing for the chance that he may have actually been a Vietnam vet, and may have killed 63 Carling Black Labels or Falstaffs over nine years.

Dad spent nine years (7 tours) between Laos (Bright Star), Vietnam, and Cambodia. Last tour 70-71
Could explain why I'm a basket case. :)

Just got my computer fixed, it died day before Christmas with a burned out video card.
SF did not do "confirmed kills" in Viet Nam. His story is pure and simple BS. I would probably doubt SF, Viet Nam, and even being in the army. I suspect a hippie that has read too many books and now trying to make claims of heroic deeds that he spit on in a prior incarnation of BS.
I can bet that with someone claiming that many years in Viet Nam as SF that he would be well known by many if it were true.

I know of one - my SGM while I was ROTC prior to enlisting - but that includes his MACV Instructor time too. Pm me and I'll give you his name.

Not SF, but I remember my father telling me of running into Army door gunners looking forward to their fourth tour in VN. He was at Langley at the time and they were at Fort Eustis or Monroe.
It's been awhile since I read his book, but didn't Frank Miller (CMH winner) claim to have done 6 tours?

Yes, I do know a man that spent more than 4 years in VN. He was my Team Sergeant in Tolz. Some may remember him, Joe Alderman. I can't remember if he had 8 1/2 or 9 years. He made a lot of 6 month rotations out of OKI before being stationed in VN.

There were a few more I remember from the early 70's also, D.J. Taylor spent somewhere around 7 years if memory serves me correct, Howard "Pappy" Blair 4 12 - 51/2 and it seems Jay Graves had more than his fair shre also.
As for the guy this thread started out about, sure seems like a bunch of BS to me.

I was going to say, I heard somewhere that the SGM was a squad leader for Ngo Quyen at the Battle of Bach Dang River.;)

Likewise for myself!!! I am not supporting those claims, but I do know quite a few folks that were "living" over there for quite a while.
The original subject of this thread, I do believe, is not worthy of our acknowledgement!!!
