DAFC - DUMB ASS FIRST CLASS

Sure Private, your commander is waiting around to take calls from your lawyer.

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AP) -- A soldier who is again absent without leave said his lawyer has repeatedly tried to speak with the Army about his status but the military is ignoring the subject.

Pvt. Kyle Snyder, 23, a former combat engineer, went AWOL from his Army unit after failing to report to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, on November 1 -- a day after turning himself in after an 18-month AWOL stint. He had fled to Canada in April 2005 while on leave to avoid a second tour in Iraq.

"Legally, I'm AWOL again," Snyder said Friday. "My lawyer has tried to contact Fort Leonard Wood like 75 times -- it's documented, 75 times -- and tried to get in touch with the military. They've avoided this entire subject."

Snyder was among two dozen volunteers from Iraq Veterans Against the War spending the week in New Orleans, gutting houses belonging to veterans and musicians that were flooded more than a year ago by Hurricane Katrina.

Snyder has said he was put on patrol when sent to Iraq in 2004, which he said he was not trained to do, and that he began to turn against the war when he saw an innocent Iraqi man killed by American gunfire.

Snyder turned himself in on October 31, after his lawyer said he had reached a deal to have Snyder processed back into the Army at Fort Knox in Kentucky and be discharged without a court-martial. However, he went AWOL again a day later. Attorney James Fennerty said the Army wanted to send Snyder back to his original unit at Fort Leonard Wood, where commanders would determine his future.

Mike Alley, a public affairs officer at Fort Leonard Wood, said Snyder never arrived at the post. He directed calls to the public affairs office at Fort Knox, where nobody answered the phone Friday.

Snyder said the military doesn't chase down people who are absent without leave. "I'm not a rapist, not a murderer, not a child molester. I'm not doing anything negative," he said. "I'm doing what I feel I have to do as a human being."

The 300-member Iraq Veterans Against the War has been arranging for groups to spend two weeks each helping to gut houses from June through August, executive director Kelly Dougherty said.

Sent to do a patrol which " he said he was not trained to do"

What part about being a "Combat" Engineer did he not understand when he signed up for that MOS??????????????????????????????????????????????? ??

He is truely a "DAFC", a coward or more than likely both.

That's what I've been saying for years; Subhumans like this guy and so many others that have done even worse can join the Army and I can't.

What a waste.

I have news flash for him.

IIRC, if he goes over 30 days AWOL, he is a deserter.

I think he should be tried for desertion and cowardice.

He also still owes the Army every day that he has been AWOL. So regardless of his ETS date, he owes then an additional X days for however long he has been gone.

What a coward.

You guys know that statue of the Infantry guy down at Ft Benning? He has his arm raised and says "Follow Me"? The whole statement is "Follow me, I'm right behind the Engineers."

For Shame on the Lad, Combat Engineers do it with a Bang.

Wasn't he already a deserter once? 18 months, or thereabouts spent up in Canada before he turned himself in? I guess they didn't confine him at Ft. Knox.

Every day he spends free, is a slap in the face to those who truly want to serve.

He should hang IMO. However, when I worked in the prisoner transport unit in Norfolk most of the deserters were simply sent out of the service on BCD's, the military did not want to spend the time and money on the knuckleheads.

IIRC, a BCD at a GCM counts as a Federal felony conviction.

Well-deserved, in this case.

Best part is the Military activates Felony Warrants for these idiots.

So when he gets stopped, he gets hooked.

On this subject, we have an NCO in our company here who returned in October after five years of being AWOL. Which leads me to believe it was either right before, or right after September 11th. Now for the hook ladies, and gentlemen--he is currently serving in a leadership position as a Team Leader of a Squad. Not only that he cuts a surly, condescending attitude with lower enlisted soldiers who've served 2 combat tours in a three year period over inconsequential comments. I'm of the opinion that if they could not demote him of rank immediately due to paperwork restraints they should have removed him of his position, and ostracized him; which they are so fond of doing to those on Temporary or Permanent profile. Welcome to the Conventional Army.

Jorje

Racing Snake,

You mean that your COC let a fricking coward be in charge of combat vets. He was fricking AWOL while good men were risking their lives in combat. I would be humilating that POS on a regular basis.

Incredible! Thats insane!
