Before anyone asks, the lass that hosed down the aisle of the transatlantic flight that had to land short of its destination is from the next town over. Really nothing unusual as Vermont seems to be scattered with mission support sites for remnants of lost tribes of flower children from the 60s. Of course, we do all have a purpose in that we provide a seedbed to keep Oregon populated with folks that strive to save the spotted owl.

Didn't you get Solzhenitsyn too? And there is a pretty good base of left leaning Libertarians (wow, alliterative, without trying), a goodly number of Socialists, and a smattering of true Communists (the American version)?

Vermont is the East Coast incubator for the Fruit and Nut crowd. But GE still has a pretty nice facility over at burlington, doesn't it?

Yep, we got them all. We have the only socialist in congress- Bernie Sanders who now wants to be the only socialist senator. As I see it, it more like living in a target rich environment where you spend half your time laughing and the rest of the time in total disbelief. As Jay Graves used to tell me, no sense crying about it the tears only keep you from getting a sharp front sight picture:D

While attending the VTARNG Mountain Warfare School in Jericho, our briefing before the land nav portion of the course included the following:

"If, while traversing flat ground on this course, you hear a siren go off, and you notice all the vegetation around you is no higher than your waist, you should seriously consider assuming a prone position as quickly as possible and remain there until the next siren." ;)

We got that breifing years ago, when we were conducting a "Rations Test" in pretty much the same area. Even when were 'over the hills' the ripping sounds were awesome.

I had the ROTC job in Burlington in 75-78 and we used to use that area for biathalon, tactical training, orienteering, and mountaineering for the cadets. I visited the test site and got the other briefing which had to do with the location of one of the best trout fishing streams which ran through the range fan. They told us how to get an update on the firing schedule and invited us to fish the area. Good deal.
