Check out the Ranger facing left, with the 3ID patch and tabs. He has those stripes I think they called "Goldenlite" that were 2 inch wide and used with combat troops.

Yes, although I wore Cpl. stripes in that period, I didn't know that they were called "Goldenlite." The non combat stripes were in reverse color. Like most soldiers in that era, I didn't like them and preferred the WW II stripes to these. :munchin

Yes it is, it has been "Ranger" modified. I also noticed that another Ranger has a BAR ammo belt on, so there are at least two BARs in the group.
The BAR was my favorite weapon in Korea and I carried one most of my time there.
No, I wasn't in the picture, nor did I take it. It was sent to me by RICA (Ranger Infantry Companys Association) with the comment look at the boots.
I did and saw what looked like jump boots, the issue boot of the era (Sort of like a jump boot.) and a couple of pair of WW II combat boots.

Great shot! I noticed a mix of 1903s, BARs and a few M14s. All heavy, all accurate.
OOPs, almost missed the M1 in there too.

Shouldn't have been M-14's, I remember turning in our M-1 garands for M-14's in the early 60's.

My age is probably biting me in the ass.
I could just be seeing fuzzy barrel ends of the M1s - it is completely possible that my old eyes and the picture on the screen conspired to fool my brain into seeing M14s, when none were there in this case.

No M-14s in that group, nor '03 either, at least that I saw, although the '03 was used as a sniper rifle in Korea as well as the M-1 sniper verison. I also saw a M-1 or M-2 Carbine in the group as well as M-1 rifles. :munchin

M1 Carbine with a flash hider on the guy with the 3rd ID patch. At least one BAR, some more carbines, and the rest appear to me to be M1 Garands.

Is the BAR still part of 18B? That mother was hell on the timed tear and build - it caused a lot of heartache in my class, especially if you had fat fingers. luckily, I got it together in 3:20 of the 4:00 allowed. Our class motto was "John Moses Browning was on some bad acid when he came up with the design of the BAR, and some mellow scotch for the M2HB." Hard to believe the same guy designed them both.

I read the combat troops didn't like them. What's funny is that the 2 inch wide stripes were designed as an economy measure. "Hey, guys I know a great way to save the Army some money! Let's make the stripes only two inches wide!!"
Great pic, tho. I first saw it in an Osprey Publishing book titled, "US Army Rangers & LRRP Units 1942–87" by Gordon Rottman and illustrated by Ronald Volstad. Here's a link to the book if anyone is interested:
