Hello:

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

Last year when I was trainging up for Selection I had a period of about one
and a half months where my legs simply would lock up. The back of my legs from the hamstrings to my ankles became so tight it would take me a good
20-30 minutes of stretching just to be able to stand with my heels on the
ground and to get my knees to fully straighten only to hobble around until I
had to do it again. This wasn't a joint problem of any kind as there was no
swelling or pain coming from them.

I was simply running a couple of times a day, hitting the gym 6 days out of 7, and rucking every other day.

I have tried to find this on my own, but I have not seen anything directly associated to it. I have begun my training again to go back to Selection
so I am trying to see what I can find out in order to prevent from reproducing
the problem.

Sounds like one of two things...

You were overtraining and not getting enough rest for your muscles or you weren't fueling the body properly. Take a multi-vitamin everyday, eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, spread your meals out into smaller meals throughout the day AND especially make sure you fuel the body properly right after a workout...nutrient timing is extremely important to muscle recovery for your next workout!

Or it could be an electrolyte imbalance causing non spastic cramping of the long large muscles of the legs. Another possibility is a tendon sheath inflamation, caused as Dan said by overtraining, exacerbated by electrolyte imabalance and improper eating habits for the type of training.

Gentlemen,

Thank you for helping to identify what could have brought this about last year and I will pay better attention this time to the training - diet - rest cycles. I will let you know if it takes place again.
