For those interested I'm building a motorcycle right now in my free time (yeah right!) from the delta course. I got the shovel motor as a basket case with grenaded cases and have been working on it for the past 5 months or so. Everything else I've pieced together little by little. Whats in the photo isnt all I've got so far, but its all i've had time to mock up. With any luck i'll have her up and running in the next coupla months.

Good looking bike. What tranny are you using? I was looking at BBC Screamin Demon kit. But at 21k with mods, I have a bit more saving to do.
AKA rotary top tranny. Cost me about $400 bucks and when I opened her up she looked brand new. The kicker shaft, kicker gear, and throw out bearing were shot, but i replaced (90 bucks maybe) now I'm good to go.
If you want to build a bike shoot me a PM. Bike kits are usually marked up about 3x the value of their parts and they still dont bolt together - nothing does. Theres lots of ways to do things on the cheap without sacraficing quality. Lots of deals to be had out there.. Just gotta look.
You could build a sick bike for around 10 grand. If you take your time, shop for parts you can do it much cheaper.
I know an SF guy who built a bike. It was in the late 70s and we were in the first 3 story brick barracks right in front of the JFK Chapel.
The trooper shall remain nameless because he finally did make it to SGM and would hate to be reminded of this activity. He kept it in the mop room on the third floor. It had a couple of close calls but was never found out. To me it seemed like that thing was up there for a year.
When it was finished he had to get a bunch of us to help get that rice burner down the stairs.
Ya gotta use what space ya got! My buddy found some trouble when we lived in the barracks for having a big portion of his bike in his barracks room. He got smoked, but no trouble came of it, but we were told afterwards that no motorcycles were allowed in the barracks rooms :)

Makes you wonder how much room there was for cleaning supplies... Let me guess the bleach bottle was filled with motor oil? :rolleyes:

Good job. I wish I had the patience to put together a whole bike. Just make sure it works properly. We wouldn't want you pulling up to that Burger King and your bike shuts down. :D
paitence to put a bike together? hell - thats how i relax. Spending an hour or two working on the bike lets me go back to my studies with a clear head.
the burger king bandits MC? Not my crowd.
behind it on the wall are some work pants. other than that.. ??

I'm still trying to figure out free time and the Q used in the same paragraph, much less same sentence - when did that happen?
I spent 6 months out of the past 12 training and the other 6 months on holdover status. I wasnt hurt, I didnt have S2 issues or family problems.. Classes were just full.
Now i'm in the Delta course and I'm doing much better now than I was before when I was studying every moment I wasnt at work. Now I try to organize my time well and make time to take breaks to work on the bike, etc. It makes it easier to stay focused on studying when I am studying.
edit: plus I'm in the first easy class :)

Calling Dr Rocky Farr!!! Where are you when we need you? A patient presents with black tarry stools.... what's the final diagnosis - too much friggin licorice - after every dx in the book. Never make an ex 91B3S an MD and then let him teach other SF medics... it's just evil. And his other trick - in Aug in San Antonio - nothing to drink after midnight guys... and at 0600, 5 miles balls out... and then IV practice on each other with 16ga.
