Very nice. I think "but monkeys" is a term that is appropriate in the current context.
Found it to be a good read with good laughs all around.
My favorite was: "The Army of the Potomac had been soundly thrashed at all but a few battles — Antietam a significant exception — and commanders were being changed faster than Sandy Berger could shove documents down his pants." :D
