I talked to a linguist who told me the army is phasing out Russian as a target language for SF as well as the linguist corps...Is there any truth to this, because it could effect whether I enlist in the army or not.

Forgive me if I'm talking out of turn here, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that most of the folks on the board aren't going to be thrilled with the idea that your interest in SF is contingent on whether they teach Russian or not. This could be interesting... :munchin

Well, I'd try for something but you seemed to cover all the bases with your post.

What does wanting to learning russian have anything to do with wanting to become an outstanding soldier? If you want to become a member of the Special Forces then enlist and roll with the punches. If they don't offer it, take a class at a local school or find a program/book and learn. If your desire to join the military is based upon whether or not they teach a certain language then you might want to reconsider.

Which do you want more. To learn Russian or to become a Quiet Professional?

Sorry if I stepped on anytoes.

Now, now. Attention to detail. He said join the army, not Special Forces.

What I can't understand is why someone would ask a question like this on this particular board without doing their research.

Contact and Army recruiter and ask him/her. That's their job. This isn't ask.com.

I think your Phone Book will work best. GoArmy.com (http://www.goarmy.com/contact/find_a_recruiter.jsp?hmref=cs)
If can't find one in your town here is a starting place. (https://secure.military.com/leads/Recruiting/Army_Recruiting_DVD.htm?ESRC=ggl_rec_army_kwlp.kw)

In-service Recruiters (http://www.bragg.army.mil/specialforces/contact.htm)
