Isn't this the fifth or sixth time he's been killed and confirmed now?
Keeping fingers-crossed and awaiting a forensic confirmation, but don't think that this will have a large effect on the situation in Iraq aside from the obvious PR benefits.
Thank God if he's dead, though. I hope it was slow.

It is being reported in all the major media outlets that it has been confirmed that it is him with finger prints, facial recognition and known scars. They got him!

That's good news, however I have no doubt that the void will be filled.
You can run but you can not hide.
Enjoy the moment.
Another victory in the GWOT and the Iraqi War of Independence.
USG must be very careful with how they handle this success, IMO, because if they make too much of it in the broad GWOT or, worse, the war in Iraq, it will come as a huge shock to most people when the terrorist/insurgent attacks continue. It seems to me that this 'deck of card' or 'roster of rogues' approach to rolling up AQ and the Iraqi insurgency is about as bad for public support as the concentration on body count in Vietnam.
Opinions?
Thanks,
Solid

I'm not sure that's a good sign.
If true it should have as much overall effect as the capture of Sadahm.
We talk of a GWOT and they talk of a Global Jihad that has gone on for centuries.

When are they going to learn to quit cleaning them up and making them look like Jesus asleep for these pics? His face is going to be on T-shirts all over the world by lunch.
They have to show them like they are when they die. Young people see how it really is, they won't be rushing to join. The pics I saw on FNC makes him look like a martyr.
Sir, I agree. The void will be filled, we can hope the next one is a dufus leg. Today I celebrate.

Nice shootin' boys.
Okay....who's next??
Hope he rots in hell!

This will be worthy of a tic mark on the GWOT timeline. My cup is half full and I believe this will have a tremendous impact on this war. His martyrdom comes at a great price to the Al Queda leadership. The great idiot narrowly escaped a couple of times before. This is a testament to the idiot's inability to counter efforts to locate him. Sucks to be him.
Congrats to our forces.
Well Done!

Well done!
Like in a sporting event we should celebrate the score but realize the game isn't over. Let's don't spike the ball on the one foot line like before.
This may be a significant blow in that Zarqawi was the recruiter and commander of the foreign troops in Iraq. Maybe we will only have to withstand the Suni/Shia conflict now.

While being a small success in the grand scheme of things hopefully to the American public it will be an indicator that things are being taken care of. Will be interesting to see the poll numbers of what the public thinks about Iraq in another day or so of the corpse getting air time.
I think the average citizen still feels its a failure that Bin Laden has not been killed even though they have to realize another muppet will just take his place. That especially seems to be the indicator of succes or failure in Afghanistan to my Democrat voting family members. They disregard all the success because they still see new videos on CNN from Bin Laden.

I'm not aware of any SOF involved in the strike.
(F-16's do not require anyone to illuminate targets for them, see AN/AAQ-14 Targeting Pod.)

You're probably right Team Sergeant. Military press conference I saw stated SOF confirmed target's presence in the house prior to the strike, but that doesn't mean they were directing the bombs. Either way, everyone did a good job yesterday.
TS, Fox had reported earlier this evening that the folks involved with this op were from a task force based out of Ft Bragg to include (according to Fox) a certain special unit and SEAL Team 6. Again, it's only what I happened to hear reported...doesn't make it true.

Senior Zarqawi Network Leaders Helped U.S. Bring Him Down
Thursday, June 08, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The spiritual adviser and deputy to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi didn't know it, but he led U.S. and Iraqi intelligence officials directly to the terror leader's door during a visit he paid Zarqawi at a safehouse.
That brought about the Wednesday night airstrike that killed both men.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Good morning.
Last night in Iraq, United States military forces killed the terrorist al-Zarqawi. At 6:15 Baghdad time, special operation forces, acting on tips and intelligence from Iraqis, confirmed Zarqawi's location and delivered justice to the most wanted terrorist in Iraq.

Not the same caption.....but the sentiment is the same. :D
I'd like his image on a t-shirt with a big SERVED stamped across it.
What a fanfriggentastic day to be a Soldier, I am glad that they got some of his crew as well. Who knows what kind of intel this will turn up. Yes, some one will take his place, blah blah blah... but for the moment the organization is really shaken up and you can bet this sends a great deal of shudders and stress through the organization. Who ever takes over will have to start up and build the organization, doing all the work that that entails. They must take risks, and do things they arent familiar with. This is a good thing.

Berg: No good in al-Zarqawi's death By RANDALL CHASE, Associated Press Writer
Thu Jun 8, 7:39 PM ET

DOVER, Del. - The father of Nicholas Berg, a U.S. contractor believed to have been beheaded by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq, said Thursday that al-Zarqawi's killing will only perpetuate the cycle of violence in the Middle East.

"I think al-Zarqawi's death is a double tragedy," Michael Berg told The Associated Press after learning a U.S. airstrike had killed the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq. "His death will incite a new wave of revenge. George Bush and al-Zarqawi are two men who believe in revenge."
Al-Zarqawi is believed to have beheaded two American civilians in 2004: Nicholas Berg, a 26-year-old businessman from West Chester, Pa., and Eugene Armstrong, a 52-year-old contractor from Hillsdale, Mich. Jack Hensley, a 48-year-old engineer from Marietta, Ga., was abducted at the same time as Armstrong and also killed.
Armstrong's family did not want to discuss al-Zarqawi.
"An evil man is dead, and what more can you say?" said family spokeswoman Cyndi Armstrong, the wife of the slain contractor's cousin.
Michael Berg, a pacifist who is running for Delaware's lone House seat on the Green Party ticket, said al-Zarqawi's death is likely to foster anti-American resentment among al-Qaida members who feel they have nothing left to lose.
Berg said the blame for most deaths in Iraq should be placed on President Bush, who he said is "more of a terrorist than Zarqawi."
"Zarqawi felt my son's breath on his hand as held the knife against his throat. Zarqawi had to look in his eyes when he did it," Berg added, pausing to collect himself. "George Bush sits there glassy-eyed in his office with pieces of paper and condemns people to death. That to me is a real terrorist."
Al-Qaida in Iraq confirmed al-Zarqawi's death and vowed to continue its "holy war," according to a statement posted on a Web site. The group has taken responsibility for numerous attacks on U.S. and Iraqi targets in the past few years.
"I think in this case justice has finally been served," said the Rev. Jerry Gladson, who had been Hensley's pastor at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Marietta.

I doubt that he was beaten by US troops!
CPR, maybe! But he was messed up so that no amount of aid would have brought him back.

Thought I would share this link to an article:
At first I was skeptical of what kind of impact al-Zarqawi's death would have, but over the past week it seems that there has been an exponentially increasing amount of information coming in. Let's hope it keeps snow balling....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5084324.stm
"The US says coalition forces in Iraq have carried out more than 450 raids since the death last week of al-Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
The US said 104 insurgents were killed and 759 "anti-Iraqi elements" captured. "
