The comedians of the country music world, Big and Rich, have released a song called the 8th of November. It is the story of a friend of theirs, Niles Harris. He fought in Operation Hump in War Zone D on November 8, 1965 as a member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Here's a first-hand account (http://www.skysoldier.org/php/skysoldier/OperationHump.php) of Operation Hump.

On the band's web site (http://www.bigandrich.com), you have a choice of listening to the song or watching the video. If you follow the Music link you'll also see the lyrics written out and their thoughts about writing this tremendous tribute.

Kris Kristofferson gives an intro on the video and speaks of Lawrence Joel, the first black MoH recipient since the Spanish American War. This is his citation (http://medalofhonor.com/LawrenceJoel.htm).

They performed this song acoustically for the ACM awards last week, appearing with 48 soldiers from WWII to the present. One of the few times I wished I owned a TV. It will be rebroadcast on GAC on June 7, 2100 EST.

Big and Rich will be performing tonight at the National Memorial Day Concert on the US Capitol's West Lawn. PBS will be airing it live at 2000 EST. And for those of us without TV's, it will be broadcast live on PBS Radio.

LibraryLady,
Thanks for posting this.

Not many rock 'n' roll cowboys will touch a story like this and do a video too.

Thanks for your service too Ma'am.

Hadn't heard of them before yesterday, but saw their band perform that song at yesterday's concert and they did a good job.
