"FRANCE, Italy and Germany sanctioned the payment of $45 million in deals to free nine hostages abducted in Iraq, according to documents seen by The Times."
It's an interesting summary of the problem.

Do they not realize that this money only feeds the cycle by funding the terrorists?
I watched Man on Fire this weekend. Denzel had the right idea.

Imagine how many pressurized gas IED's they could procure from Iran with that kind of money. I'm always two mind's about this--whereas I absolutely think they should not negotiate with terrorists. I'm also torn by the U.S. policy of offering bounties for Saddam Hussein, and Osama Bin Laden--monies that will probalbly go to nefarious tribal warlords, or even as close as Saddam's personal security escort which could use the money to finance their own anti-western insurgency. Or the other unfortunate habit we have of giving radical muslims anti-aircraft weapons to fight our ephemeral enemies, and leaving many of the warheads behind. Or look at the situation in the Gulf, whereas, to create Equilibrium for offering Israel Big-BLU bunker busters, they're offering to one of the largest supporters of Wahabism outside of Egypt: Saudi Arabia. These are unfortunate times we live in.

And, how many here really believed that they did NOT pay for those individuals' release before this came out? :munchin
