He was one hell of a man! One hell of an NCO! And one hell of a QP!
I participated in a raid with him to rescue Nick Rowe from his bamboo cage in the U Minh forest, we didn't get to him , but we got close enough that he heard us. 75 Nung mercenaries were inserted into the LZ, not one of them made it out of there alive...A bad day all around!
I had intended to take Nancy and pay him a visit, just kept putting it off for various reasons. That saddens me, I would have liked to have said goodbye!
Blue skies:
Rest In Peace, Pappy!

Rest in Peace
Rest in Peace, thank you for everything you have done!
He will be missed!
CPTAUSRET you are either greatly mistaken or have no idea what you are talking about. Pappy Kittleson was my Team SGT in VN 67-68 on the MGF. 12 0f us conducted a POW Raid into the UH-Minh Forest in Oct 67. There were no Nungs, nor did we find the camp. It is the raid he describes in his book "Raider." Do you claim to have been on the ground? If not what was your Aviation unit. I just discussed this subject on SF Brothers on Facebook.

Remember Pappy from the Smoke Bomb Hill days when the 5th and 7th were co-located. Seems that we always ran the MATA mile at the same time in the afternoon. He could put many of the much younger guys to shame. I will carry his memory fondly the remainder of my days.
RIP Warrior!
