Anyone want to discuss? What are your team's needs and what do you want them to do in the draft? :munchin

Okay time to put you names down your the 2006 NFL Draft (http://www.nfl.com/draft) this weekend.

So what are your picks?

QB - I'll take Vince Young, I'm a Texan, but a AGGIE!!
RB - Reggie Bush, USC
WR - Chad Jackson, Florida
TE - Leonard Pope, Georgia

Also will Brett Favre come back this year?

Unless we switch to a 3-4 (which isn't likely, since we just signed Sam Adams) we need to draft a CB. Tory James is great, but he's getting older and is in the last year of his contract. With safety Madieu Williams coming off the DL, bringing in Tye Hill from Clemson would be great; having him and Deltha O'Neal in at CB should produce more of the picks that were the hallmark of the Bengals D last season. After that, should be a TE, O-line and D-line.

It's kinda refreshing, for the first time I can remember (I was in the first grade when they last went to the Super Bowl) the Bengals don't have a top-ten draft pick. :p

Very curious to see what my Packers will do. Will they snag a new QB? My guess is no, even though Brett hasn't made a decision yet.

Better get some defense though.

Best bet for the packers in the first round is AJ Hawk. Doubt they're gonna get a new QB, they're probably gonna give Rodgers a shot.

Don't like Vernon Davis?
Sure I could, but why.

You can't say his speed.. Look at the Draft weight that he'll list about 255-260 or so. He run's his 40-40 in 4:35's. But to me its in his wieght, hes lite. Don't really see anything more different from or of him.

I pick Pope becuz, hell look I'm at bragg - Pope. First Clue, and then I'm in the NC (SE) so I'll take someone I've seen a the Tube.

I would love the Pats to go with a LB in the first round, then WR or RB in the second...but with the Pats who knows...

Unless they move up in the first round, I would expect them to pick a linebacker or lineman in round 1. Tuna doesn't seem to value QBs much, although he did take Pennington when he was with the Jets.

No, they need a QB now. They need to trade for one. A good one. Now. I don't get college football here, so I don't know who is good at that level.

Parcells doesn't really impress me all that much, I could have coached the NYG team he had to the SB.

Same with that guy that coaches the Lakers now. You have Jordan and Pippin and then O'Neal and Bryant - you'd better win.

I'll say no... and I'm a hardcore Hokie. His character issues are the big reason, but I really don't think he's good enough at QB.

To me, his skills don't matter much. I've tracked him through college - suspension - college - expulsion, and I wouldn't want to hand over a team to him.

But some GM will pick him up on sheer athletic ability.

Dallas needs a QB

So will Houston, if they don't get an OLine. Carr's not going to last much longer. Either one would keep Young in the Republic of Texas (or Tejas...).

Roguish Lawyer
04-25-2006, 17:34
NDD, it sounds to me like you want them to sign a free agent. But if you want them to draft a QB, the consensus seems to be that the top three QBs are Matt Leinart from USC, Jay Cutler from Vanderbilt and Vince Young from Texas; and that they'll all go in the top 10. Brodie Croyle from Alabama probably will go in Round 2.

I can't say I'd like to see Carr in Dallas, but I do agree we need a QB. I was hoping we would trade up and get Michael Huff from Texas. Bledsoe will last another year or two and the offense will be better with the addition (not a fan yet) of T.O.

Roguish Lawyer
04-25-2006, 18:21
Hey NDD, are you happy the Cowboys signed TO?

One of my expert witnesses is a former professional football player who knows Dennis Erickson pretty well. Dennis told him that he's never in his entire career encountered a player who had the simultaneous abilities to make a team five wins better or five losses worse, through a unique blend of incredible talent and complete focus on himself at the expense of his team.

I would think SF dudes would hate TO . . .

NDD Parcells is not your culprit there it's Jerry Jones. I am sure Parcells was the guy hancuffed in a back room with tape over his mouth during that press conference. I give that turd Owens six games to sour that locker room. I would not be surprised to see Dallas trade up to take Cutler.

Having said that My Bears need a WR and defensive tackle! :lifter

Parcells is the only coach in the league that will be able to control TO. As I said before, I'm not a fan....yet. When he comes out and scores touchdowns and makes the team better, I might accept him as a Cowboy.

Although I highly doubt Parcells will be gone next year, I do agree with Goggles Pizano, the problem is Jerry Jones. Jones has been nothing but trouble for the Boys since he bought the team and fired Tom Landry. He has done some good, but his me-first attitude makes people not want to work for him.

As I stated before, I think our biggest need is a safety and who better to take than Michael Huff out of Texas. It might cost us a pick in the later round, but will be well worth it when he lines up next to Roy Williams.

...the problem is Jerry Jones. Jones has been nothing but trouble for the Boys since he bought the team and fired Tom Landry. He has done some good, but his me-first attitude makes people not want to work for him.

Another problem with Jerry Jones is he picked a bad plastic surgeon. All that money and that's the face he bought? Were all the good plastic surgeons in Dallas tied up doing boob jobs? But maybe that's the trend, based on Kenny Rogers. He still sounds like The Gambler, but he don't look like 'im!

'Skins need a LB to replace LaVar Arrington. Shockingly, they could not land a top one in free agency. The papers are saying the draft is deep enough at that position that they will get a good one with their 2nd round pick. I don't think it matters, Gregg Williams has shown he can plug a guy into his system and make him a star (e.g., Antonio Pierce). I would've loved to see the labor talks break down, Dan Snyder would've gone nuts with the uncapped year.

Yes, but they always look like SB contenders in June-July-August!

TO in Dallas, LaVar in NY, McNab healthy and the cancer off his team, the NFC East is going to be rockin' this year.

Andre Hall - RB He will be a good add-on to the Offensive Line. The RBs are getting old (2 a Point) so Denver needs to start looking at some replacements.

Darnell Bing,USC - Safety I say Bing would be a good pick we need to look at the loss of John Lynch and no more Ed McCaffrey. He can be used at both positions.

QB Position- Jake Plummer is a Joke (most of the time) he just can't connect with his WR. Denvers Back-up QBs: Preston Parsons & Van Pelt they really never play them so I don't really know how will they are. Guess we'll see in Per-sesson, their both "new".

Contrary to popular opinion (RL!) I was a huge Eagle fan growing up with Dic Vermeil and felt betrayed with the Rich Kotite debacle. I swore off them at that time and placed them second to the Bears. I'm still a Philly guy and since the Flyers won again tonight I hope you will judge me on fan merit and NOT try me for treason on a management judgement call! :D

Couldn't believe that when I saw it on Sports Center last night. Houston says their decision had nothing to do with Bushs latest "issues" Whatever!

Now will NO take Bush or trade up??

airborneFSO
04-29-2006, 09:20
After that shocker yesterday, I really could not see N.O. letting someone as good as Bush slip away. With that said, everything has a price so I could see N.O. making a deal with Green Bay to replace Ahman Green, which would make Brett Favre a little more productive in his last season.

I do agree, this has "stirred" the pot a little, we'll see, in 40 mins, where it leads.

Fascinating draft so far. Knew that White would slip, but Justice was a surprise. Did not see Whitner or Joseph going as high as they did. :munchin

airborneFSO

I think Buffalo could have traded down and still got Whitner plus a few other picks. I was shocked as well.

Another suprise, Oakland not taking Leinart...Michael Huff is a great player and will make the Raiders a better team, but Matt Leinart would have been a better fit there.

As a Cowboys fan, I was happy to see the 'Boys try and find someone to fill in the spot Dat Nguyen left.

MHO, Arizona made out the best so far. They picked up Leinart, Tutui, and Leonard Pope to go along with Edgerrin James, Anquan Boldin, and Larry Fitzgerald. I think that team will be much better than before.

Denver acquiring a quarterback, a wide receiver and a tight end on the first day of the draft. OFFENSIVE was the Drive this weekend!

As a Niners fan, I really loved watching TO play in SF, but his problems started when he stood on that Dallas star...twice.. I really loved that at the time, be he just went down hill from there, and became the jerk you love to hate... sort of like Anakin Skywalker. When he was a nobody he was fun to watch, his greatest moment was catching that pass in the endzone for the TD that ended the Greenbay Packers season (yeah yeah, I know, on that drive Jerry Rice didnt really catch the ball it hit the turf - so what- Green Bay got over more than once on SF and Steve Young) , it was huge, it still is, so as niners fans, we just have to think of that one single play, and you just can't hate him, more like feel sorry for what could have been.

As far as the draft, I think the 49ers did well, but its a huge mistake not to draft an offensive line. No QB can throw from underneath a pile of Defenders. So, next season will be more of the same, although with some exciting plays to watch now and then.

That Vernon Davis might just humble a guy like TO, his nickname is 'The Duke.'

Only a couple more months till they open camp.

NDD,

I've got some grey hair, but not that much... Those guys were before my time... As a kid I watched Montana, man what exciting Sundays those were. He is a magnificent person and an excellent athlete. No Owens type antics from those guys, just results. In the endzone they always acted as if they'd been there before and would be there again. We got to the point where you took a Niners victory for granted, as fans we didnt think they would lose, it was more like "how many points will they score this sunday?" It was a great run while it lasted. We were spoiled for nearly two decades.

It will be a looooong time before they are like that again, the owner is a real manager of dollars, and has no real love for the game of football, its a business interest to him. sort of a 'gee whiz' thing to him.
