MEDIA ADVISORY: John F. Kennedy Memorial Chapel celebrates 40th Anniversary
U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, Apr. 11, 2006) The John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the original dedication ceremony of the JFK Memorial Chapel at 11a.m. on 19 April here.

This ceremony and service will pay tribute to the heritage, history and ministry of this symbolic center of faith in the Special Operations community and will include patrons of the JFK Memorial Chapel for the past forty years

The guest speaker will be Chaplain Maj. Gen. David Hicks, the U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains. The Chief of Army Chaplains is the principal advisor to the Army Chief of Staff on all Army chaplain matters. In addition, the Chief oversees all Army Active, Reserve and National Guard chaplaincy personnel throughout the United States and deployed with soldiers in over 120 countries.

The Chapel sanctuary is home to seven beautifully designed stained-glass windows depicting the history of Special Operations Forces. The artwork was produced by Milcho Silianoff, a former Soldier and weight lifting champion, whose work fills churches, schools and universities across America. The John Wayne memorial is also located on the premises along with memorials to units and Soldiers.

During construction of the Chapel, the cornerstone was laid with a capsule containing a green beret and the insignia of all the Special Forces and Psychological Operations units in the Army at the time.
