JACKSON, Miss. The Mississippi Army National Guard says a guardsman from Brandon was killed in Afghanistan.

Staff Sergeant Christopher L- Robinson was killed yesterday when he was shot during a combat patrol near the Sangain District of Afghanistan. Robinson was 36.

That's according to Lieutenant Colonel Tim Powell.

Robinson was a member of the guard's Headquarters Detachment, 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group based in Jackson.

Major General Harold Cross -- the adjutant general of Mississippi -- says it's a reminder of the high cost of freedom.

About 160 members of the 2nd Battalion, 20th Special Forces were mobilized as part of Operation Enduring Freedom last September. They arrived in Afghanistan in January.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Aside from us, it seems as though the only bastards here fighting for their country are the Taliban & Al Queda. The convoy was ambushed & came under small arms fire. The ANA (Afghan National Army) jumped in the ditch & cowarded behind the vehicles. The only ones returning effective fire were our guys & our terps. I guess the media didn't want to release the true numbers of Taliban killed, but it was definately more than seven. One of the terps took down 2-3 of those bastards by himself & he is the worst shot of the group. No matter how many of those bastards we killed, it won't bring back Chris or lessen the pain.

Chris was yelling at the ANA to get out of the ditches & return fire when he got hit. A bullet went through the side of his soft armor into his lower abdomen. Reese, the team SGT got hit through the shoulder. The entrance wound wasn't so bad, but the exit wound was about the size of a large orange. Reese will recover without any permanent damage; no bones or major arteries were hit. Unfortunately Chris died several hours later at the hospital nearby. He leaves a wife & two kids. We were all huddled together in a prayer here in Afghanistan when the Chaplain in MS was headed to his wife's house to let her know of the tragedy.

I sat in the briefing less than 10 feet from Chris last week before he took off for that mission. Chris was an 18E (Communications SGT) & trained me on loading cryptos on our SatComs back at Shelby. He was about my age, maybe 1-2 years older. Even though he out ranked me by two grades, he always went out of his way to be nice whenever we passed each other.

Please pray for him & his family.

I spoke to some of Chris' team mates today. The team came under heavy fire and fought bravely.

I agree with Archangel: The truth of the matter is that right now, the only forces going out the gate everyday and taking the fight to the enemy in his own turf is USSF. We never see, or hear of anyone else out there. I don't know why this is, but it's frustrating with all of the firepower available here.

Rest in Peace, Chris.

Archangel, I don't care to think about the number of times I've had to say good bye. Any of the guys that have been around a day or two can tell you it doesn't get any better. Especially when its a brother. Because each and every time its like loosing blood kin. He is resting with plenty of our kin. I know J.C. has a special place for us and he is happier now than he has ever been and he will be there when we get there. RIP, Archangel you have big shoes to fill. "Q".

I was scheduled for the funeral detail for Chris when he got back state side, Unfortunatley The MOSQ school here at Camp Shelby wouldnt alow me to go so I got pretty hot about that. I remember him being such an awesome guy who was always ready to lend a hand around the unit.

Rest In Peace.

RIP bro,

Thanks for posting the pictures. That is a very special sight to behold that too many out of our line of work get to see. The respect that we show our fallen has always put a lump in my throat.

In the last picture posted, one of the guys has his arm in a sling (looks like a Durfka head wrap used as a craveat actually). Is that the Tm SGT that had the large exit wound?

Rest in Peace, Sergeant.

That's my unit, though I only did a few drills there before shipping off to basic and the pipeline and didn't get the chance to know SSG Robinson.

The Team Sgt that was wounded ran the NQP program while I was there and was the first of a many SF instructors that would inspire and motivated me. You can't imagine how proud I felt when on my last drill there he told me he thought I'd do fine in the course and that he'd be looking for me for his team when I finished. That was two and half years ago. I completed SERE today.

It hardly seems like a year has passed. Every morning when I see that flag standing in my front yard I think of you and all of the others like you who are out in harms way so that I can be here at home enjoying life.

We will never forget you. This day will live in our hearts and minds forever. We will be heading down to Camp Shelby today to place a stone in your honor at the war museum so others may also remember the price you paid. See you on the other side brother.
