Sirs,

I've been lurking around for a little while now, and although I've been able to absorb a wealth of information, there is an undenialable fact that I just don't "fit in" (and understandable so, I'm not SF).

I looked around on google a bit but wasn't able to find much in the way of active forums, I was wondering if anyone knew of already established forums for us regular Joe's out there, where I might be able to learn something off some other "regular" Infantry NCO's and Officers out there.

Thank you in advance for any help,

PFC Fonz

Maybe the message board (http://council.smallwarsjournal.com) at Small Wars Journal could be interesting?

I don't think that board is a good one for PFCs.

Depends, if your looking for UK then I'd suggest militaryforums.co.uk or rumration.co.uk orarrse.co.uk

You may want to try military.com. I'm not sure how much knowlegde can be obtained, but it is certainly more for the average joe. Based on the nature of the grunt it may be hard to find what your looking for. If your unit is anything like mine I think you'll understand.

There are oodles of military related forums out there. According to Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=military+forums&btnG=Google+Search) there are about 47,900,000 hits for military forums.

But easier than using Google is your AKO login. Enter the AKO forums and seeing what fellow soldiers are talking about there. You will find many forums aren't kept as professional as others like here, but you can quickly determine the grinches of those forums and ignore them or move on to better forums.

Depends what your goals and aspirations are...and what kind of info you're looking for.
Here's two sites that are infantry heavy:

www.airborneranger.com
www.armyranger.com

MySpace has many Army/military related groups, I'm part of several. Also to add to WM's list, armyparatrooper.org is another good site for info while airbornejoe.com is a much less serious site.

As a member of the airborneranger site, I should tell you that it is a bit more "slam your face in the mud" than this site seems (OK, first impression, I'm new here myself).

If you see someone labelled as "Ranger" Smith, make sure to address them as "Ranger".

The language is a bit more from the unpublished parts of the dictionary :) and the conversation is ...... well, let's just call it gritty. (with all due respect to my friends over there) :)

petertic:

Please fill out your profile and introduce yourself if you plan to stay.

FWIW, I have already checked out your site recently, it must be an acquired taste.

Several people have visited here from there with varying degrees of success as well.

This site will be a bit more formal, more informative, more respectful, less humorous, and less tolerant of those looking for a nice uninformed argument.

Have a very SF day.

Then, read evey "Sticky" that appears at the top of any Forum, before you post in it.

Have a VERY SF DAY!!!

I agree with Weazle, ArmyParatrooper.org (http://www.armyparatrooper.org/bb) is a good place for info. Aside from what the name implies, there are plenty of "regular" joes over there.
