View Full Version : Jackpot!
Gentlemen,
A momentous, albeit unusual, event recently occurred over here in CJSOTF-AP. We actually embedded a 'Stars and Stripes' reporter with the Iraqi Counter Terrorist Force (ICTF), with strict instructions not to photograph any US or Iraqi personnel, use their names in the ensuing newpaper article, or discuss operational techniques. During the course of his stay, he managed to accompany the unit on a successful hostage rescue. Afterwards, one Iraqi soldier was quoted as saying "If you ask one of these men what his religion is, he will tell you--'I am not Sunni, I am not Shi'a, I am not Kurd. I am ICTF."
That is what victory looks like. De Oppresso Liber.

Iraqi Counter Terrorism Force frees hostage
March 8, 2006
BALAD, Iraq (Army News Service, March 8, 2006) – A late-night operation by Iraqi Counter Terrorism Forces east of Taji March 6 freed an Iraqi government official held hostage and led to the detention of two suspects believed to be involved in the hostage taking.
Soldiers from the 2nd Counterterrorism Battalion, 1st Iraqi Special Operations Forces Brigade planned and conducted an assault that freed the Iraqi official who, according to sources, was to be executed later that night after spending almost four days in captivity.
The hostage was handcuffed to a bed in an isolated room of the house in which he was held. He was badly beaten and bleeding from his mouth when he was discovered by the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Force known as ICTF. However, he was quickly cut free and taken to another room where he received medical attention and was able to call his family to tell them that he was safe.
According to one senior U.S. Special Operations Forces advisor responsible for training the ICTF, this is the type of mission they train for.
“They were able to execute quickly and make timely decisions on the ground,” the advisor said. “It provided an outstanding situation in which to showcase the abilities of the unit.”
Two individuals were apprehended soon after ICTF forces discovered the hostage. The two are believed to be part of a kidnapping and execution cell.
No one was killed during this operation, officials said. They said one of the alleged kidnappers received a cut on his head. He was treated on the scene.
U.S. SOF elements are involved throughout Iraq in training and advising the Iraqi Special Operations Forces Brigade, as well as other Iraqi Security Forces, including army and police units.

I'm starting to miss the S & S just a bit...
It does feel good in capturing the insurgents I must say. Our last few weeks in country was very rewarding, after capturing many of insurgents throughout our tour we captured 4 more on 13 December 2004 including a supsected leader of a terrorist cell in Jalula on a cordon and search. Even though I'm not SF it feels good when you remove insurgents from the equation of terrorism.
Thank you ethikz, from a grateful American.
I read a similar article about ICTF about a month ago in Stars and Stripes. Im not sure if it was the same raid, but I was impressed with what I read. Sounds like these guys are high speed. Great Job!
